Isn't the average somewhere between £15,000 and £30,000?

That doesn't seem that bad, as long as you live sensibly (though the lower bracket must be more difficult depending on your circumstances).

i could do it ..but it depends mostly on where you live and how frugal you are ...add children to the equation and then the tough choices kick in .

the average is £24,000 per year ....i agree to live sensibly is best ,however ..when earning at the average level ,it becomes extremely difficult to live day to day and also put aside sufficient funds for your retirement ..something always has to give ..

50 grand a year is quite a lot I'm not surprised it's a low percentage in these times...it would be nice though, just over half way to go, sigh!

If you look at household wages, then the percentage is probably higher.

But it all comes down to HOW you spend and being sensible. I know people earning less who have a better lifestyle that people on almost £60,000.
