I got really confused, cus I called it Manic Depresion in cla** once, and was told off for calling it an 'insensative term' and that were supposed to say 'Bipolar'.

But then I was watching a doco on it, and the voiceover people and the doctors and that called it bipolar, but alot of the people who had it called it Manic Depression, so i'm not sure what to say, lol.

manic depression was a misleading term and people didn't understand it.
bi-polar is more accurate.

Useing the word Bi polar is kind of a 'blanket cover ' that refers to a whole bunch of different disorders that use to be treated seperatly , my sons doc says it is 'socially correct ' or kinder sounding than words like
'Manic' or 'insanity' or mental ' ,disorders, irrationality etc...

It's hell to live with someone that has it and won't take their meds. Rollercoaster ride of emotions all the time.
I know, both my kids have it.

My Nephew use to be married to a Bipolar girl. She refuses to take her meds too, says she don't need them. That is why they are divorced. It is really hard from all I have heard to live with someone like that.

I am bipolar and I love it when I'm mamnic because I am on top of the world and feel like I am hot stuff, but it can be dangerous too. I once went through an episode where I was seconds away from trying to commit suicide, and I've done some pretty dangerous things. I do crazy things w/o thinking first, but love the hyperness I get from being manic. I feel like that's my true self. I hate, on the other hand when I get depressed because I feel worthless and like noone likes me and feel not so hot. Sorry this is so long

I had to go to my psychiatrist the next morning after my worst manic episode. I take meds, but I have to take so many combinations of pills, if I forget one day, I'm a mess for a couple days after

There are many degrees of Bipolar disorder. If they aren't too extreme, the manic highs can be really wonderful. Energetic, creative, charming, the life of the party, and more. Unfortunately they almost always alternate with depresive states that can be downright destructive. They can be hard to spot, too, because they may last for hours each or for months or even years. I was diagnossed in 1985 and, yes, I MISS my manic highs. I don't miss the lows and I don't miss the stupid things I did because I felt invincible. Sometimes finding the right medication that controls the symptoms without totally wiping out the personality is difficut. I know it is worth it. I rather like being sane (whatever that is...)
