I work for a music house in new york city that writes music for advertising. My company is
one of the best in the industry, but we still have trouble keeping up the flow of jobs. It's hot,
then cold, then hot again. I have a vision for the company that i work for but i fear it's
unattainable. My vision is that we start to be asked for rather than the other way around. I
was wondering if anyone out there might know how i could start to build a client list and
relationships within the community?

I am self employed, and that's the nature of almost all businesses. Even established brands struggle from time to time.

It is all feast and famine.

Contracts are attained primarily by WHO YOU KNOW.

Funny about that. One minute you working till all hours and the next time to count how many grains of sugar are on a teaspoon.

I run a promotional products business and it's no different to any other business.

it does not matter how professional or how good you are,you still have to stay at the top when you reach the top.
and it gets harder,because then you are a "leader" in the market,and others will always copy a successfull market leader.
so you then have to come up with new ideas,and then sell them to propective clients.so you see,you will always be selling yourself and your company.
you have great drive,and i wish you well,never lose your drive,maintain a fresh outlook,and never be afraid to try new things and i believe you can succeed.
it may not be with this company,you may need to find another who is prepaired to be a little more radical,or on your own.
