There is a language which a woman I used to work with spoke, it was all click's and pop's. With French, Spanish or German, you can pick up what is being said, but that was just bizarre. Maybe I think that was ugly because I had no idea what was being said and that's rude, it's probably a beautiful language if you can understand it

I wish I had some of these.

Okay you guys. I haven't seen a single educated and scientificaly argumentative post on this thread. Except may be for some of those intellectually advanced individuals that accept the idea of the "ugliness in the ears of the beholder" or something like that. We have to cast a vote and try to explain why and then probably compile a list with points of ugliness. I think it is only fair to indicate for each voter what (s)he considers to be his/her mother tongue and what other languages (s)he speaks and/or studied.

I will start. Probably makes sense to keep the list to 5-10 languages max for each contributor.
My list of ugliest languages, not necessarily in that order:
1) Dutch ('cause G in Groningen sounds like throat cleaning)
2) Hebrew (similar to the above with all added weird consonants)
3) Arabic (a really weird inversed "a" sound that hurts my throat when I try to imitate it)
4) Vietnamese (try to say something. you'll sound like a duck)
5) Chinese (too many fricatives and the tones that that make things just unbearable)
6) Korean (weird consonant combinations like "chlrblrm" or at least that's how i hear it)
7) Swedish and Danish (playing a tape backwards, yeah baby, that Top Secret movie was right)

My native tongue is Russian. I speak English (no s**t!) and also learned/speak some Japanese and Italian.

Now here is a fresh idea. What languages do you think sound pleasant? Maybe someone should start a separate thread. Here are my two cents:
1) Albanian
2) Standard British English

English because it's like a mutt of all the European languages, followed closely by French because it gives me a headache to try and read it

English, easily.

I should say, the English bastardization(s) we Americans have created.

Spanish is by far the sexiest of all languages.

Icelandic is probably one of the hardest languages to learn.
