If we're going to go there...Okay, if someone were to attack me(rape or otherwise), I would rather incapacitate them PERMANENTLY instead of shooting them with a taser and running away, allowing them the chance to harm another victim. I want the jacka** who assaulted me down for the count.

So carry a gun. You have a permit, you're allowed. I encourage you to do so.

Not everyone wants to carry a gun. Many people would prefer to carry a less lethal weapon for self defense.

Weapons are made offense, not defense. People get angry and they have a weapon, a gun, a knife, whatever, which thy took out with them for "defense". The first thing their mind jumps to is the weapon and suddenly they've crossed the line. In those few seconds where anger got the better of them, they've pulled the weapon and killed or injured someone. I'd rather people learned to defend themselves without weapons, which can work. My dad's neighbour hospitalised the same burglar twice when the guy broke into his house. No tasers, knives or guns required.

I doubt a person would be that stupid to kill someone with a gun when they get angry.

What are you going to do, learn karate? A person woiuld kill you before you got within three feet of them. They would shoot you. Have you ever fired a gun? No, apparently you haven't. A gun would be much more affective than a kick or whatever.

As for your Dad's neighboor, good for him. But that won't work everytime. Come here nit he US and see how helpless you are when you don't have a weapon.

Guns are great, and people who can control they're anger know not to use them when they get angry.

Well it IS a fairly normal reaction...anger when being attacked. If a man doens't want me to taser him, he shouldn't attack me.

I seriously do not understand why some people are so against personal protection.

But in the situation I'm talking about, the person is not being attacked. It's a common cause for murder and serious assaults. Here's a thought. You're more likely to be killed by someone in your close circle of family and friends than by a stranger.

This is why a taser is preferable to a gun.

If there's a mistake or misunderstanding, or if a taser is used simply out of anger on a unaggressive or nonthreatening person, the chances that they will be injured or killed as a result of the tasing is negligible.

I know, and anti-gun people always say the same thing. They kill people, blah, blah.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Spiderswing, most murders are not premeditated. THey happen when someone gets angry and they have a weapon nearby. The whole point is that you're not thinking straight and your self-control is diminished. You think it's stupid? It's the most common cause of gun murders anywhere, in fact, with any kind of murder.

And how big of a woman are you? I'm 5'7" and about 115lb. How in hell am I going to defend myself against a grown man? I mean, if I get myself lined up just s...o which is higly unlikely in a moment of attack...MAYBE I can pull some self defense move. Thanks, but I'd rather rely on something that's a little more of s sure thing.

I'd like to see you support that claim.

Besides, we're not discussing murder. We're discussing tasers. Tasers cannot be used to murder people. You keep talking about guns and ignoring tasers in a discussion about tasers.

Not everyone will do that, my Dad has a gun collection, do you see him pulling out a gun when he's angry? No.

Ok fine. But lets say for a second my 70-year-old grandfather who has angina and other heart problems goes to the shop for milk. It's dark and there's a woman carrying a taser, walking in the same direction as Grampa, slightly ahead of him. It's dark so she's more aware of her surroundings. SHe's aware that Grampa is following her. Without meaning to, he catches up with her. She gets scared, pulls out the taser and fires. Grampa's heart can't take the shot and he has, yet another, heart attack. THis time, it's fatal and she goes down for culpable homicide. It worked really well there.

But let's say he did survive. Well in that case, he's suing her for every penny she's got. Not only has he sufffered physical damage, but he couldn't work for 6 months (not that he needs to, but he enjoys the work he does).

In either of those resulting scenarios, was the taser really worth it.

I was talking about a taser. A taser gives me a fighting chance. I can at least zap and run.

Though I do have guns. Amazingly, I have yet to shoot anyone.

NOt everyone with a gun is going to kill someone but the chances of it happening actually increase.

That same grandpa could go out and trip off the curb and kill himself. You can't dictate how you live your life by every what if. A atser, in the grand scheme of things, is a minor weapon that can aid in self protection.
