I saw this on the news, sure.. why not??? you are protecting yourself without killing someone.. I don't see the problem.. except that they aren't like the tasers police have and you need to be a close distance to attack.

You have a gun permit, so presumably you have a gun.

Do you want anyone on this site saying you shouldn't be allowed to have a gun because you might hurt someone with it?

That's precisely what you are saying about tasers, which are virtually non-lethal.. especially compared to a GUN.

If anyone thought that I shouldn't own a gun because I might hurt someone with it, then they obviously don't know me very well.

That is not what I'm saying about tasers. It is significantly easier to have access to a taser than a gun. That's what I'm saying.

We really don't need access to any more weapons than we already have. The news is full of assaults as it is.

They are basically the same thing. Taser is a brand name of stun gun that has the capability to shoot electrode darts on wires to stun a victim several feet away in addition to "regular" stun gun usage.

They only incapacitate for a long time in the movies. Once the shock is removed, full function returns almost immediately.

Thank You

I'd love one. My fiance would strongly agree too. I tell you, I get nervous sometimes leaving work as late as I do. It's only 5:30pm but it's very dark out and the parking lot is very empty. Most people are gone by the time I leave so it wouldn't be very hard for something to do something to me since no one is really around to see or do anything.

Pepper spray only does so much. I rather have a taser ready incase. But of course only used when I absolutely must.

Not saying it's foolproof but the people in the pub did not need a gun or a taser to stop the criminal although they did mess with the forensic evidence.

Yes, but that was one crook they stopped. Had it been a bunch of guys the public wouldn't have stood a chance.

In most cases you can't avoid using a weapon.

What are the chances of that happening? In Scotland, guns are illegal and I think tasers are too. Our homicide rate is half of that in the U.S. We don't have this whole "guns for protection thing."

A gunshot wound seriously injures and usually kills the victim.

A taser does not cause injuries or wounds, and almost never results in death.

I go out on my own a lot, especially now that I'm in Aberdeen and don't have my dog with me all the time. It's all part of a panic and there is a strange idea that a lone woman would have time to pull a gun out of her purse, aim and fire in the split-second or so it takes an attacker to strike. THe taser would have the same time limitation. It's not effective in that kind of situation.

If I would have to walk out in a parking lot after dark by myself I would have my taser ready in hand before walking out the door.

Your against gun control I know. But honestly which would you rather people have to protect themselves?
There is never going to be this full prof thing we will ever have to protect ourselves. but I think this taser is about as safe as anything out there.

Guns are great, and they do save lives. They're fun to shoot too.

I, as a pro-gun person, find it sad that they're illegal in some countries.

But, this is not the place to discuss this.

I think it's great that women are using tasers, if a crook comes up to them the can taser them. It's for self defense.

I don't want to debate that but because I know exactly where that debate goes but this thread seems to be going that way too.

Weapons are made offense, not defense. People get angry and they have a weapon, a gun, a knife, whatever, which thy took out with them for "defense". The first thing their mind jumps to is the weapon and suddenly they've crossed the line. In those few seconds where anger got the better of them, they've pulled the weapon and killed or injured someone. I'd rather people learned to defend themselves without weapons, which can work. My dad's neighbour hospitalised the same burglar twice when the guy broke into his house. No tasers, knives or guns required.

If we're going to go there...Okay, if someone were to attack me(rape or otherwise), I would rather incapacitate them PERMANENTLY instead of shooting them with a taser and running away, allowing them the chance to harm another victim. I want the jacka** who assaulted me down for the count.

Well it IS a fairly normal reaction...anger when being attacked. If a man doens't want me to taser him, he shouldn't attack me.

I seriously do not understand why some people are so against personal protection.
