“I certainly don’t want to be preaching anything with regard to making this a game or fun,” she said. “It is serious and it’s about personal protection.”

“But I think regardless, it does make it a little more attractive for people to own. And as far as we’re concerned, [we] obviously position it as a personal safety device and it could possibly save your life or at least prevent you from getting raped or attacked.”

Strange. My gran just saw on the news a self-defense cla** which shows people how to use walking sticks for self-defense.

And I just saw eight year olds learning kung-fu in P.E., strange huh?

There are no bad guns, just bad gun owners.

well they are less fatal than guns or knives

are you kidding me?
guns & knives arent fatal, the people who use them are. think about it, a baseball bat can be fatal then. a golf club can be fatal. everything can be fatal when used a particular way...
scary to think about...

The goal of the parties isn't to turn a "weapon" into an accessory.

They're to spread information about tasers as self-defense weapons.

Your straw man "they're parties, so they must treat tasers as fashion!" is silly, unjustified, and unfair. Of course that idea is ludicrous. Good thing that's not how anyone is promoting them.

But it is how they're promoting them. Instead of calling them "taser parties" they should be Taser Awareness Programs. Then to add cute accessories to a dangerous product like an MP3 player is only adding to the frivolity. My point of view is not unfair. I understand their point. I just don't agree with the way they're marketing it.

Have you been to one of these parties?

You're awfully sure of how they're being marketed, despite the words of the person actually holding the parties that say otherwise.

Don't make up what goes on at these gatherings.

I think it's a bad idea. If they're given a weapon it could make them more paranoid and more likely to use it. In my experience, girls are usually clumsy at my school. In my chemistry class, one nearly dropped a bottle of acid on me (she just caught it when it was falling), one nearly dropped a scalpel on my foot and one burnt me by lighting the bunsen too early when i was adjusting it. But this is not just for women, this comment. i think carrying something to protect yourself can make you more paranoid and more likely to use it.

once i rose above the noise and confusion; just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion; i was soaring ever higher; but i flew too high

No, I haven't. But my impression of them is as I say. I never made assumptions of what goes on at the parties, only my reaction to seeing them being promoted, which was very lighthearted and silly.

Though I realize that I may have some unique views, I doubt that I am the only one who got the feeling that the "party" seemed frivolous.

To be fair, I only saw the promotion on the Today show, and have no other basis of visual comparison. But I did read numerous articles about it: for, against and neutral. I understand all points of view. I happen to agree with one of them. You agree with the other.

How can I be wrong in the way I view something?? Just because I don't agree with you?

You can be wrong because you're totally making up, in your mind, what goes on at these "parties" and how the products are presented and marketed.

I'm not making up what goes on at the "parties." I'm not saying anything about what goes on. I'm saying that the way I saw it marketed on television, the taser seemed like a pretty cool toy. That doesn't make me wrong. It's MY point of view!

You freely admit to never having attended one, but you think you know precisely what goes on at them.

*shrug*

If you say so. *pat*pat*

How many ways can I say that I don't think I know what goes on at them???

Do you even read the posts? Or just continue to banter someone until they give in? I'm new, but I can assure you, that you will never cow me out of my personal opinion. Make me see your, perhaps, but never will I lose my own scope.

You can say that you don't think you know what goes on at the parties.

You can also say that you know how the devices are marketed at the parties.

However, both of these statements can't be true. And if the first one is true, any opinion about how the devices are marketed at the parties is one based on nothing whatsoever and would be stupid to have.

Please read my posts.

I DO NOT think I know what goes on at the "parties." Which also means that I DO NOT know how they're being marketed at the "parties." My comments referred to how they were marketed on TELEVISION.

It's difficult to debate with someone who doesn't read the posts to begin with.

In the unlikely event there's some crazy drunk woman who's angry at me, i'd rather have her tazer me then shoot/stab me.

Considering how many women (always hot) are abducted/raped/kidnapped here in the states, only makes sense there could be something semi-non lethal which they can use to defend themselves against crazy sick bastards.
