The scenarios you listed are somewhat far-fetched, will result in criminal charges against the weapon user, and, in any case, extremely unlikely to result in a fatality. The vast majority of the time, a taser hurts and incapacitates for just a few seconds, after which the pain and inability to move vanish immediately.
The potential to save dozens or hundreds of lives and prevent dozens or hundreds of rapes per year significantly outweighs the risks.
In any case, it is our Constitutional right to arm ourselves for self-defense in whatever way we see fit.
Trust me, those scenarios are not far-fetched. Especially when drinking is involved. And hot tempers.
My problem is the regulation of these weapons. I'm willing to bet that many women will buy them for husbands, boyfriends, etc.
And really, I don't want to run the risk of being tasered if I'm out somewhere and a situation gets out of control.
My opinion can kick your opinion's ass. Nah na nah na boo boo

Rapist: "Hm, that woman has a purse. So many of them are carrying tasers these days I'll move on to the next one not carrying anything."

Not really. A rapist is hardly likely to not attack someone because she doesn't have a purse. They still haven't worked out all the problems associated with the taser and a woman could mistake someone's intentions and harm an innocent person. Like with the gun, there is also the problem of pulling out the taser and firing since attacks tend to be sudden and unforseen.
On a dark night it is easy to mistake an innocent person for a threat and it is easy to feel you are being followed. Having been n that situation myself (followed home by a mental patient during a power-cut) it is incredibly easy to see a threat where there is none and people do panic and it does result in problems. You don't know whether the person you're firing at has a heart condition, whether they are actually a threat or why they are there.
