Oh and Spiderswing, my Grampa is still a large man. He doesn't need a stick to walk with and the hypothetical location is dark. I mistook a mental patient with a rather dazed look on his face for an attacker once. Luckily my step-dad had come out looking for me. I had tried running but I was ready to turn and fight if I had to.

Well good for your Grandpa.

But I'm sad to reprt to you not everyone is as large and tough as him.

If only the world was safe enough to live life without a weapon. I doubt everyone would have the time and patience to learn hand to hannd combat. That si simply not going to happen.

I wish anti-weapon people would see that not everyone is a killer, and some love to collect guns and weapons.

And, if you really care about the innocent, how come your against every weapon of self defense? I doubt an old lady would be able to learn kung-fu.

I'm not against weapons being used in self-defense but too often are weapons pulled out in anger and fired or stabbed into someone without a second thought. I also wonder what kind of world you live in if the burglar in my house will kill me if I don't have a weapon.

THe fact is, weapons are not built for defense. They are built to injure, to cause harm. No, not everyone is a killer but the line is easy to cross. If you don't have a weapon and you get angry, you slap the person you're angry at or walk away. People feel safer with weapons, yes. But that also makes them more likely to hurt someone.

Not every woman with a weapon is going to hurt an innocent person with it, but attackers generally don't give you time to whip out your taser and the better ones don't give any warning and really don't look all that dangerous. Unless you actually have a warning, how effective is that weapon that needs pulled out, aimed and fired going to be if the time needed is more than the time taken for an effective attacker to grab and disarm you.

Permits don't stop anyone from hurting or killing, which is why I am against harmful or potentially harmful weapons being legally handed out. The operative word is harmful here people. Give me a weapon that is guaranteed not to kill and ok, it's fine. We shouldn't discriminate against people who are taller or stronger because they look dangerous. Permits do not stop crime. THey allow people to carry the weapons that they are afraid of legally.

Anything can be used as a weapon, a baseball bat, a rock, a plastic bag, anything. Are you going to make the entire live in little boxes where they can't use anything to kill someone?

Ok after reading these post it seems many seem to think drinking is the cause of wrongfully using weapons. So maybe rather then doing away with the weapons you should have to take anger management and pa** the cla** before you are aloud to buy alcohol.

I went through classes in order to get my permit for a gun, it took much longer than 10 minutes, and I took it quite seriously.

A taser is not a gun.

Sometimes it doesn't even take alcohol. Just to push someone just a little too far.

You sound like you could inflict much, much more damage on someone while drunk and angry than a taser can.

You should not be allowed out of your house using your own logic.

Have you ever fired a gun? Sure, guns were made to injure, but things have evolved since then.

And unless you're a Chuck Norris clone, you'd have to be quick to disarm someone before they pulled out they're gun or weapon. You'd be surprised how fast some people can draw there weapon out.

Agreed. But it is a weapon.

It can and will be used for reasons beyond self-defense. As with any other weapon, I think that it should be taken as seriously.

That's all I'm saying. I'm not completely against the idea.

What I'm against is the concept of "taser parties," and making them attractive. Dress it up any way you like: It's still a weapon. It needs to be treated with the same attitudes as any weapon. Just because it probably won't kill you doesn't mean that it should be used in every scenario.

That's probably exactly what is said during the taser informational meetings.

I believe where I live purchsing a taser is illegal for me... my fiance has looked into purchasing one for me about several times.
It's unfortunate that some people are complete morons that abuse the right of having one, ruining it for the rest of us sensible folks.

I'm sure people can say "you can use that same argument about gun ownership," Well I'm not talking about a gun, a taser is not a gun. In fact now that I can't get a taser maybe I'll go out, apply for a gun license and purchase myself a gun for the sole purpose of protection.

I bet if some poor unfortunate person attacks me they will be wishing I had a taser.

And if she's so against things being used for weapons, then she shouldn't use forks, spoons, plastic bags, baseball bats, chairs. You know why? Because all of them can be abused and used as weapons.

1) I'm more of a pacifist myself and I avoid getting drunk. I am not the one talking about drunk people, I know that sober people can lose it just as easily as drunk people. I'm the sort of person who can hit someone in defense and STILL feel bad about it. For example, the time my sister almost accidentally suffocated me.

2) THat's the whole point. Read stories of people who've been attacked. THey come from behind and without warning most of the time. They're ready, you're not.
