But thats what i'm saying they are all innocent. the 8 out of ten that were saved are innocent. just as those 1 in 100,000. My point is that more lives are saved with having the weapon. In your theory only the 1 in 100,000 are safe in mine 8 out of 10. Remember the victim is innocent!!

Maybe big strong guys should have to get a permit before they take a martial arts class. After all, if they have a permit, they can't hurt anyone. If they have no permit they might kill people when they're drunk.

Ok fine. But lets say for a second my 70-year-old grandfather who has angina and other heart problems goes to the shop for milk. It's dark and there's a woman carrying a taser, walking in the same direction as Grampa, slightly ahead of him. It's dark so she's more aware of her surroundings. SHe's aware that Grampa is following her. Without meaning to, he catches up with her. She gets scared, pulls out the taser and fires. Grampa's heart can't take the shot and he has, yet another, heart attack. THis time, it's fatal and she goes down for culpable homicide. It worked really well there.

But let's say he did survive. Well in that case, he's suing her for every penny she's got. Not only has he sufffered physical damage, but he couldn't work for 6 months (not that he needs to, but he enjoys the work he does).

In either of those resulting scenarios, was the taser really worth it.

I'd just like to say that the chances of him catching up with the woman, unless she's in bad health, are extremely minimal.

Unless it's the life of a woman being attacked?

ANY innocent life. Women are not trained to recognise potential threats, or use a wepon effectively. What if the "man" you thought was about to attack you turned out to be a woman, who just found out she was pregant coming to ask for directions? The effect of the taser can induce a spontaneous abortion. Could you look her in the eye? You would be better off learning to defend yourself without weapons, seriously. No weapon currently available can safely be said to be safe.

Do people with permits not think that way?

Anyone can think that way. But in my opinion, those who take the time and energy to get a permit would be less likely to think of it as a weapon, and more as a self-defense tool.

If you taser you can kill the baby, if you kick her in the stomach yep you can kill the baby. you have to be equally close either way.

I gues it comes down to this...I trust myself a hell of a lot more than you seem to trust the average woman. I'm not an idiot. I'm not one to panic needlessly. I can asses a situation and act appropriately. Maybe you think women aren't capable of rational thought. I do.

Do you honestly think that an extra 10 minutes in the Taser Store signing some papers for a permit is going to change how someone thinks a year later when drunk in a bar?

Jesus. The arguments in this thread are idiotic beyond belief.

If only the world was safe enough to live life without a weapon. I doubt everyone would have the time and patience to learn hand to hannd combat. That si simply not going to happen.

I wish anti-weapon people would see that not everyone is a killer, and some love to collect guns and weapons.

And, if you really care about the innocent, how come your against every weapon of self defense? I doubt an old lady would be able to learn kung-fu.

And how do you define what kind of knife should require a permit and what's considered safe?

I don't think they sell cutlery knives in weapon shops. I guess if not, that's how.

Nothing's really safe, anything can be used as a weapon.

Permits don't stop anyone from hurting or killing, which is why I am against harmful or potentially harmful weapons being legally handed out. The operative word is harmful here people. Give me a weapon that is guaranteed not to kill and ok, it's fine. We shouldn't discriminate against people who are taller or stronger because they look dangerous. Permits do not stop crime. THey allow people to carry the weapons that they are afraid of legally.

Oh and Spiderswing, my Grampa is still a large man. He doesn't need a stick to walk with and the hypothetical location is dark. I mistook a mental patient with a rather dazed look on his face for an attacker once. Luckily my step-dad had come out looking for me. I had tried running but I was ready to turn and fight if I had to.

I'd rather get tasered three times than get my nose broken or my testicles crushed.

If you're going to insult me then I will refrain from debating with you in the future.
I went through classes in order to get my permit for a gun, it took much longer than 10 minutes, and I took it quite seriously.
