I don't get it, "emos" as everyone lables them are just sensitive people. Here, let's break this down by gender.

"Emo" males:
-Sensitive, with a great personality. They love music and cultures. Adore going to shows and if you can find one as a boyfriend you have it made cause they'll do just about anything for you. Sweetest people ever. They say cheesy things that'll make your heart melt and when you call at 1 in the morning crying because your cat just died, they'll be over in a heart beat. At school they laugh and hang out with lots of people, they are not loners in the corner moping and crying about their life. They're out to enjoy every moment of it. They do not cut themselves, at least not all of them. That's like saying all teens smoke. Some write poetry, because they like to, it's a hobby.
-Tight jeans, studded belt. Stripes of all sorts or a tight band shirt. Chucks or vans on their feet. Black nails or clean. A ring or two. The classic emo haircut with bangs over their eyes and darkened, possibly to the point of black. Piercings, one or two facial. Nose, eyebrow, that sorta thing. Often have eyeliner.

"Emo" females:
-Crazy and goofy. Always hyper and talk out a lot in class. Not disrespectful, but just happy to be there and glad to share her views. Has a good many friends, with some extra special ones that are real tight. Laughs a lot. Knows how to have fun and you are never bored when you are around them. Same as above, they do not cut themselves, at least not all of them. That's like saying all teens smoke. Some write poetry, because they like to, it's a hobby.
-Extra tight jeans, that lead down to their high top Chuck Taylors OR looser jeans that lead to their Vans. Band shirt or old geeky shirt made cool. (Think Pokemon or Transformers with a band zip up hoodie.) Black fingernails or bright rocker red. Sweat band or lots of brightly coloured gelly bracelets. Necklace may be a chunky chain that fits just against the skin with a diary lock holding it together with they key on one of you bracelets. Or a necktie. Eyeliner, lip piercing or other face piercing and short hair. Most emo girls like their hair to be bleech blonde and cut choppy, or black and cut to be longer in front, shorter in black. Emo bangs of caurse.

**Give or take some things*

ISo what do you find so wrong with them? Why do you hate "emos"? What /is/ there to hate about them?

hmm, even though you clearly state that they don't all cut themselves, you have still stereotyped them.

Yah, I did that on purpose because people don't get to see the real side of them, so I gave their personalities (I have quite a few "emo" friends and technicly could be called one myself) along with what would normaly get an "emo" label as far as apperances go. I just wish people would learn more about other people before they judged.

I've seen a few teenagers as you've described who are no way "emo". The "emos" most people hate are the one's who've had a great life and everything handed to them and all they can do is complain. That's pretty sad if you ask me, if your parents buy you a car, buy your clothing, cook and clean for you and all you can do is complain about how miserable your life is, you need to find something better to do. No one wants to hear that, and that's the "emos" most people hate.

why do we need this "emo" label anyway? it has become so widespread, although it isn't really a lifestyle or a belief system like punk culture, rather it is just a style of music/dress so why would people want to be put under this stereotype anyway?

I can't stand people who complain when they have had everything handed to them. Just watch tv for God's sake. Look at those poor African children. Breaks my heart.

Labeling yourself is one of the stupidest things, but no matetr what you do you will get labeled, so why not get labeled for dressing the way you love, acting the way you feel and living life as it was ment to be lived?

From what I've seen and heard, "emo" is not a look. It's how the person is, that's just what I've seen and heard though. Why someone feels the need to give themself a label is beyond me.

Yah, emo is how you feel inside not about how you dress. But how you dress can portray how you feel, too. That needs to be taken into consideration and placed into contexted. I dress "emo" because I like dressing this way, I feel more comfortable. It probably just a phase, I went through the same one two years ago when I dressed like a guy. Refused to wear pink or purple and wore ties to school =3 I still wear ties.. hehe

Isn't grunge ripped clothing and garage band type look?

Again though, you did stereotype them. You were the one describing how they dress and such. If someone dresses in a lot of black clothing and heavy dark makeup, does that mean they're depressed or unhappy in anyway? Does that make them emo or goth or depressed?

Dark clothing and dark heavy makeup is goth. That's completly different. Nothing like "emo" at all. "Emos" wear tight clothes, dark or striped.

Does dressing in bright clothes cheer your day up? You feel better then when in darker clothes right? Clothing and colours affect our brains and can stimulate them. This is why the way we dress can, and will, affect our moods.
