it could be that he was poorly tipped by a black couple once, and then after that he never bothered to give any of them good service. i'm not saying it's what happened, only that it would be a very good explanation for why black people never tip him.

no one likes tipping! i dont blame waiters either. who the hell wants to weigh hand and foot for strangers. then again, the job market is vast, pick another job u like.

If you have never been a bartender or waiter then you have no Idea. I have to agree black people are some of the toughest coustomers to deal with...there are alot of whites I wait on that suck too but when they leave they generally tip ok. id say at least 90% of blacks i have waited on have asked for everything free they can get, say they cant tase the alchohol in their drinks to try to get free s**t and after running you all around they stiff of tip you an insultingly low tip 5-10%....if you dont like to tip dont go somewhere it is expected of you ...stay at Burgerking or subway....Most people also dont realize we come in early and prepare for the days work and stay after the guest are gone to clean up and durring that whole time we are still only paid 2.13 an hour.

I have a VERY good friend that is a waitress. Do you people not realise how little money they get for the work they do? A lot of times they don't even get minimum wages. A lot of times their tips is all they have to make their payments. You should be ashamed of yourselves for not tipping a GOOD waiter/waitress. They count on that money, most of the time they have kids to feed and clothe.

Paying someone below minimum wage is illegal.

being a moron should be as well.....waiters and bartenders across the country are paid on average $2.13 an hour and it is legal because it is expected that people wont be assholes....the sad thing is in virginia even if I dont make on average 15% in tips because of ghetto customers i still get taxed as if I had. I said to stay at burgerking or subway as a way of saying if you dont like to tip or are too poor to afford a resturaunt that expects you to tip...DONT GO.

No, it is illegal.

What is the minimum wage for workers who receive tips?

An employer may pay a tipped employee not less than $2.13 an hour in direct wages if that amount plus the tips received equal at least the federal minimum wage, the employee retains all tips and the employee customarily and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips. If an employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference.

Some states have minimum wage laws specific to tipped employees. When an employee is subject to both the federal and state wage laws, the employee is entitled to the provisions of each law which provide the greater benefits.

as someone that already sympathises and does what he can in this regard, i fail to see how it's my responsibility to pay someone's wages on a per-meal basis when his or her employer won't. what's being done by the business should be criminal and you're telling us we're immoral.

let's take your claim to the logical conclusion. if the employer decides one day he's not going to pay his staff anymore, they have to make it all in tips, is it my responsibility to pay even more now, even though i'm paying the same amount for food as before?

obviously it's morally acceptable that the employer pays a fixed rate, he makes the profit and i make up for his greed. how that becomes my responsibility i don't know. i help when i can, but if it's totally our responsibility perhaps no one should eat at restaurants. that will certainly solve your problem.
