Ruth Cole from John Irving's 'A Winow for One Year'

i actually had to look that up,
i thought the phrase
'that chick from...'
might detract from the the feminist undertones of the thread

My vote is for Scarlett as well. She is the ultimate survivor.

Kay Scarpetta does indeed rock my socks! I also like Ivy Tamwood from Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking series. Yes she is flawed but she still kicks ass!

SCAdians shall take over the world with jello filled siege weapons. A disabled SCAdian living in an able bodied Mundane world. I carry blades and drive a wheelchair on the road, scared yet?

Definitely Elizabeth Bennett in Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'

I definitely agree. She is a very strong woman character, definitely one of my favorites. I would also have to add Jane Eyre.

Elizabeth Bennett and Scarlett O'Hara are great. Also Laura Ingalls Wilder. And Brigid O'Shaughnessy from The Maltese Falcon.
