Mine is Keladry of Mindelin from The Protector of the Small series by Tamora Pierce.

Second would be Mary Russell from her books by Laurie R. King.

Katie was lurking here... I smell her body splash, probably thinking she was being sneaky...

Sayuri from Memoirs of a Geisha, probably because i just finished the book and the story is still fresh in my mind. I like that she seemed very real to me, i felt i could understand decisions that she made and the thoughts she had.

I'm fond of Daine in Tamora Peirce's wild magic series but I also like Becky Sharp from Vanity Fair

Sayuri or Chiyo-chan from Memoirs of a Geisha.

I echo your thoughts exactly....strong character that she is, also the character Meredith from the same authors "Fay series", which I am currently reading....

Cool, the ones I was thinking of were mentioned, except Alanna from Tamora Pierce. I think Daine, Kel and Alanna are all good. As well as Sayuri from Memoirs, I love that book.

I love stories with female heroes. Any really good ones to suggest? Prefer fantasy.

Check the book Dhampir by hendree.....the main character is a kick as female, Mageire who is half mortal and half vampire, kicks vampire butt along with her fay dog and half elven partner Lesie....great book along with the second in the tale, still looking for the third in the series.
