I don't want to be forty and feel useless. So, I have to plan ahead.
You still can find a job suitable for you..

There's a maturity and common sense that tends to come with age & I think a lot of employers recognise & appreciate this, but there are still too many employers who discriminate against older applicants.

I agree, there's a lot of truth in what you say.

Who was that guy who started a new career over the age of 100, and made more money after 100 than he had in his whole life before that, lol...I'll try to find it. He's still alive I think...

When you think you are too old.......you are too old. Up until then, keep plugging away.

One good thing about age, you've already made all the obvious mistakes already.

I think it depends on what kind of career you have in mind.

I totally agree!!

Young people may have the advantage of time on their side but then they need more time to achieve tasks!! Us older people need less time to achieve the task as we probably done something similar before already!!

I don't think age matters as long as you can effectively justify your decisions

I think they would think with age comes experience wich you should have in that field. As long as your capable and qualified go for it!

(Sorry if this isn't quite the right forum section...)

I know that there is the Age Discrimination law but I get the feeling that if I were to look for a more satisfying position, Human Resources managers and hiring personnel will look at my age and think twice.

I used to think that anyone in their 40s was already set in their ways -- boy was I wrong! I feel like there are so many opportunities out there. Any thoughts?

You're never to old to start a new career....

you're never to old to do anything you want to do....

you just gotta get up and do it! ask around if you're lost..

but actually, there a plenty of jobs that look for "older" people....you have advantages being older, you would have more experience, you would be considered more reliable etc etc.

Plus with new laws that require equal opportunity....discrimination shouldn't be a problem...if it is well....

Wildcat many of us end up in job and even careers not plannind on being there neccesarily. We just end up staying there because we get married or something that requires us to bring in that dependable income. Take some time. Write down everything you really enjoy doing---everything. Then out of that list selrct the items you REALLY enjoy--so much so you would even do it for free. Then do some intense research on what types of career opportunities exist for each. Then take some time off---dont think specifically about what you did.---a few days. Tell me what you come up with--I'll help you from t here if you would like. renegadedad

Once they start shovelling the sod into your grave, you might as well just give it up...
