My friend has worked in several programming jobs before coming to the one at which we met now and he has had to learn loads of different programming languages but even after all of that he still likes basic which was the first oen he learned.

What is your favorite programming language and why?

Personally I prefer C/C++. Just about 75% of the programming industry is geared towards it (especially games and os ).

Pascal (Delphi) and Perl are great for building quick small apps, and Java is great for x-platform stuff (personally I've just never gotten into it)

C++ and VB.

Between the two of them you can code 90% of what businesses need.

I always prefered C++

I do virtually all my programming in VB now, since I now just build stuff for Excel really as an aside to my job.

At uni I dabbled with Fortran, and actually really liked it

Fortrans always something I've fancied playing about with.
Is it easy to set up on win32 or are you better using a unix system?

I was using Fortran 77 and Fortran 90 on a windows platform (probably 95/98 given when it was).

I don't like any of them

There was one I really hated, but I forget what it was called. It was all like this.

Code:

(function blah)
(blah blah blah)
(blah blah)

weird..
