I'm still trying to eat well and exercise to lose some weight but I'm getting a bit jaded on the cooking front. Does anybody have any interesting recipes that have helped? I need some inspiration and some ideas for meals we can ALL eat rather than me having to cook two separate dinners. All help would be gratefully received.

Thank you. Such a help that I do wonder how I coped before. At least I smiled.

No, but I know Ollie would like it. Might add to my middle, though, because I love fish fingers and would probably end up eating 10. Ta though, Moo.

Honestly, it's less about what you eat than how much of it you eat.

Yes, it's good to grill instead of fry, fill up on veggies, limit the oils, creams, and cheeses you use cooking, etc. But your best weapon is to eat less.

Portion control is your single most potent weapon in the weight loss fight.

Thanks jonnythan. Luckily my appetite has decreased so I can't eat large portions any more, so I must be doing something right.

Agreed, I found it much easier to eat less of what I liked, then totally try and stay on some strict diet. I changed from canned to fresh, from red meat to fish, but cutting back really helped.

That's what I did too. It's nice that I don't eat as much as I used to. I find if I deny myself something I will binge on it. So if I don't deny, i eat a little and am satisfied.

Sounds fair enough. A lot of people seem to limit themselves so much that they get bored or whatever and give up.

Exactly!! And now resturants are starting to offer half portions, I find I really like this option.

I've gone through a few rounds of weight loss in the past 5 years. The first time I went from around 200 to 160, then from 175 to 165 and now I'm halfway through a 170-155 trip.

Each time, I chronicle every single calorie I eat. When I go back and look at the things I eat, I'm often surprised to see that virtually all of the foods I love - pizza, hamburgers, Doritos, Chinese food, etc - are still there quite a bit. The key is that I eat less often and eat less food at a sitting. Instead of getting two chalupas and a burrito, I'll get 3 regular tacos. Still fills me up but I'm looking at 540 calories instead of 1300. Or I'll make pasta and garlic bread but only eat one piece of bread and one bowl of pasta and put the rest away, instead of going back and doing a second helping. That one decision makes dinner a 600 calorie affair instead of a 1200 calorie one.
