Westlife, who are by no means a rock band, were on X Factor last week singing their latest single which is a poor cover of "What About Now" by Daughtry.

A few days later Katherine Jenkins was on TV singing "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence. It wasn't too bad, apart from the fact that it was just her and the song really needs two vocalists.

Worst of all, I just heard Ronan Keating's new single on the radio. It's a bland, emotionless cover of "Stay" by Sugarland. I don't know why he bothered. Jennifer Nettles has an amazing voice and sings this song (which she also wrote) brilliantly. Ronan doesn't and doesn't!

its annoying isnt it? Its nothing new though. Music moguls will do anything for a buck. Tapping into a 10 the year ago nostalgia trap is big cash.

Waits for someone to cover dont look back in anger.

Music writing has probably reached it's nadir where there are no new ideas forthcoming, just as in Hollywood where they keep on making bad versions of previous films!

But to modern musical audiences lyrics don't seem to matter, volume is most important!
In Hip Hop music (you must feel generous to call most of it music at all) being primarily rythm and rhyme, without much thought given to the lyrics at all!

I think Katherine Jenkins is trying to widen her fanbase by singing songs by a band that more younger people would listen to. I quite like her voice, but I agree it needs two vocalists for that track, sounds too bare otherwise.

I don't like Westlife anyway but butchering a Daughtry track is quite unforgivable.
