Ok, Spiderswing432,
If you can quote there are no bad guns, just bad gun owners, then how can you be so against pit bulls? The same is true about Pits or any other dog for that matter as it is about guns. I am bathing dogs for a living now. I have bathed several pits or pit mixed dogs and not one of them have ever been agressive towards me as other breeds have. I don't hold any agression agianst that particular breed because I am wise enough to recongnize that it could have been me that was off that day. When I was six years old I was bitten by a great dane, I am not afraid of great danes, I made a bad choice. I almost lost my arm because of that experience but I don't blame that great dane or am I afraid of any great dane because of that experience, and I love pit bulls. Pit Bulls are one of the most loyal and affectionate breeds of dogs I have ever come to know.

I have yet to meet an agressive Great Dane. What were you doing when it bit you?

I had a one pit. She was the best dog I’ve ever had. She was very protective of kids and woman. She didn't really care for men. I got her when she was 2 years old so I’m not sure what happened to make her not like men. She wasn't mean to men or anything she just didn't go to them, and she watched the kids closer when men were around.

I think you have to have had a pit to understand just how special of a pet they are. My pit had an almost human personality, she was the smartest dog I’ve ever owned.

I will say she didn't care for other dogs, she would tolerate them but she would snap at them quick if they got in her space. I couldn't own cats for all the years I had her. She hated cats with a passion.

Life is what you make of it!!

My opinion is that just because they have a bad reputation that they should be treated normally. I mean I have been to two motels in the period of a week that wouldn't let us keep our pit but as always we sneak him in. My dad got rid of him because he didn't want to get caught with him when he is a house dog and has done abslolutely nothing wrong. My dad is a sterotype who thinks that all " vicous " dogs are bad. It turns out he lied about not being able to keep him and we found out the next day when we went walking around our apartments and saw rought wilers, pits, and dobermans. That made my mom severely mad and she spent days mabey weeks looking for him I know because he was my dog and I looked more than anyone did. Most places and people are like that and really shouldn't be because that just makes them fools for the rest of their lifes. I hope others agree with me and will forever remember that just because something has a bad reputation you shouldn't judge it as bad.

pitbulls are dogs.
like any dogs, they CAN become aggressive and bite people.
if raised correctly and not antagonized i severely doubt they would do much harm.
therefore, no, i don't think they should be banned at all.
maybe some restrictions on like having them in houses with young children or something, i can understand.
but banning them is completely wrong.
because not all pitbulls are aggressive.
and any dog brought up in bad conditions and irritated could do just as much damage as a pit.

I love pitbulls. Why should a whole damn breed suffer because of a few MISTREATED ones? It's the home, not the dog.

I feel the breed should not be banned. However, I would agree licensing and training classes FOR THE OWNERS should be required.

I feel pitbulls do have the propensity to be aggressive, I feel this aggression correlates with the training and treatment the dog receives from it's handlers.

As Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer states..there are no bad breeds, just bad owners

Pitbulls have an inbuilt aggression. If you acquire one and have young children in the house, then you are, unwittingly or otherwise, dicing with that child`s health, or in extreme cases, its life.... So many pitbull incidents have there been down the years, that I`m sorry to say, I can`t be dissuaded from that view, and the reason for my view is stated in the opening line.

i say we get rid of all the kids and adults that drive and txt on their phones at the same time. i would guess that more people are killed and or hurt by them then a pit bulls.

Personally, I would not have a pitbull in my house if I had young children. I would not take the chance regardless of how well-trained the dog is.

However, I still feel this breed should not be banned

I feel that the owner of a pet should be held responsible for its interaction with humans. If my pet attacks a human I would expect to be charged with assault and if it was an animal capable of killing a human being it should be considered a lethal weapon.

I think each individual dog is different. I think the reason why most pits get the name they do is b/c many ppl use them for fighting. I have personally seen several great pits. I also have had many rotts; which is another breed that some ppl don't like. I love love rotts I think that they are such great dogs.

I own a pitt bull, I love him and he is sweet as pie. Having said that, I have no kids, when the hubby and I are not at home, he stays his creat, not to protect anyone but him, pitt bulls have a high chance of being stolen or killed just because of the breed. We are also having him professional trained. People can say it is the breed all the want, and while I am for stricter enforcement regualting pitts, it is more because the breeders of these animals have been more than pathetic at thier job. Anywho, I love my pitt here he is..

I agree.
I've known several people that have had pitbulls and the dogs have all been very friendly, yet i've heard the stories of how they've torn people apart and it's hard for me to imagine one doing that without being provoked or without having been trained for fighting.
I also think that pitbulls get too much of a bad name. I've come across way more terrior type dogs that have been snappy and aggressive than I have any other type of dog and I think the reason that's ignored is because they are so small that they rarely do any damage.

I have a rottweiler and some people see him and are terrified, but once they've gotten to know him they realise all rottweilers aren't bad and evil, just like all pitbulls aren't bad and evil.
I think people should stop judging certain breeds of dogs just by a few bad individuals - if we judged humans by the ammount of harm we've done to eachother we'd be considered "the devils" children.
