an upstroke guitar does not a Ska band make. I'd say they were Punk with a heavy Ska/Reggae influence, as were many other early Punk acts, even the Pistols played some upstroke stuff. don't get me wrong they did play some Ska and Reggae tunes but their self titled was some straight up Punk and they always kept more of a Punk ethos as opposed to Ska. But then I've always been one of those people who put more significance on what was played rather than how it was is what made Punk.

i would consider it too mean.
1) style over substance
2) non members of the band, changing the band i.e name, members.

the pistols definitely tick the first criteria, johnny was selected too join the band, because of his look, they hired him before they even head him sing. and sid, he had zero musical ability, but was still in the band because of the look.
and they tick the second criteria, because of mclaren and vivienne.

Pistols definitely. The Clash are good, White Riot is their best.. but nothing in that era comes close to "Bodies" by the Pistols.

I'm more into the Oi! side of punk, though. Special Duties, Cockney Rejects, Sham 69 etc.

even the poorest, least manufactured of bands need a look, and what the pistols really put forward on record is by far greater than what any other punk band in the modern era has managed, if not musically then certainly in significance. one record changing the music world cant be bad. and like i said before, bands need fine tuning like changing the name and members. sid was s**t and i agree he only had his look. but would you be saying that if he really could play?

there's having a "look".
and there's relying on your "look" and your controversies too effectively whore yourself too the public .

and *if* sid did have ability (other than his high suction nose), i wouldn't be saying what im saying about him.

another thing that irritates about the pistols is, if you were ask a random stranger to name the members, they could quite easily name sid and johnny who were the least talented.
and the more talented members such as Matlock go unmentioned and unknown.

and the same applies too the pistols discography.
almost all could mention god save the queen and anarchy in the UK.
but few could name the rest of the discography.

theres a shock the few best known ones! before you go slagging of bands you should know your song before you sing it. i can name every song in order off that album without looking.

i know my facts, haven't you read any of this thread?

i've mentioned dozens of facts regarding the pistols and their formation and their management
i've also corrected you on facts (post 20)

not being able to name a bands whole discography does not prove i know nothing of the band.
