what would you consider the phrase, manufactured bands means?
i would consider it too mean.
1) style over substance
2) non members of the band, changing the band i.e name, members.
the pistols definitely tick the first criteria, johnny was selected too join the band, because of his look, they hired him before they even head him sing. and sid, he had zero musical ability, but was still in the band because of the look.
and they tick the second criteria, because of mclaren and vivienne.

even the poorest, least manufactured of bands need a look, and what the pistols really put forward on record is by far greater than what any other punk band in the modern era has managed, if not musically then certainly in significance. one record changing the music world cant be bad. and like i said before, bands need fine tuning like changing the name and members. sid was s**t and i agree he only had his look. but would you be saying that if he really could play?
