Actually, In fact, Sid Vicious had nothing to do with the musical ability of the Sex Pistols. Steve, Johnny, and Paul were the ones who made the music. Sid Vicious was just smart in the way that he gained more publicity than the rest of the band by being the first real shock rocker. Not to say that he didn't help the war on Nazism, but he wasn't really the main musician of that band.

no, i just meant like a lot of people my age and younger go on about it like they were part of the scene, when in fact the pistols and clash were in the height of thier fame when i was 7 years old, we wasnt allowed green hair or safety pins in our noses at junior school

I've never tried to tell anyone I'm a punk cause I just don't look the part I do quite like punk music though, a couple of TFSers have got me into it recently

not bad for an anti establishment crone

and the clash done some brilliant non-punk songs, but when they did start experimenting, bit like most bands some of the more experimental stuff was crap cuz it was trying to be what maybe they weren't

the above is all meant in the best PAHSSIBLE taste

Well Sex Pistols of course made Punk explode but The Clashs lyrics were right on the money.
They both did there part for the punk movement, but i do love the clash just that little bit more.

I'm not big on the Pistols, not my kind of sound. I like the Clash much better.

It is hard to pick one over the other. The Clash were exceptional good lyricists and musicians but the Pistols own the punk attitude of the time. The Pistols had some good tracks, alot of people forget the good songs like "lonely boy", "noone is innocent" Stepping stone" to name a few. Equally The Clash has top tunes aswell, my personal favourite being "Stay free". So which is best The Clash or Pistols........Hmmm..........I will say at a future date namely never.

I saw the Pistols 3 weeks ago. Pissed me off when i told people i was seeing the original line up and they started bad mouthing me sayng if hd ever heard of Sid Vicious.

Wherent the pistols going like 1974ish with like everyone exsept john and sid. and John was passing by SEX the shopand malcom saw him brought him in and made him sing a song on there jukebox all cause Johnny was wearing a t shirt saying "i hate pink floyd".

The something about they where called The Johns or something.

Glen was with the Pistols when they recorded there album. Sid was later on cause Glen had enough of the band. Sid was like the "Classic Punk" look and got this bigger name.

Sid to me was an asshole, Dont get how all these lassies all look up to him and think hes this stunning guy he was a skinny junkie.

The Pistols album Never Mind The Bollocks is a sweet perfect made album, Lyrics amazingly done. Best punk album to me, But prsonally think if they would have made another album they would have ruined it.

The Clash are more musicians to me, Had a couple of amazing albums all with great lyrics and meanings. But they went on too much and died out.

Pistols stopped and made them what they are today. Look at the Damned they released the first ever punk single there still around today playing small venues where the Pistols Reunion every 10 years and play these huge venues. Still Traveling in a van Pistols get a huge tour bus.

I like the Clash better..the Sex Pistols are to uhh "gimmicky" for me. Kudo's for making punk "look" good though. Don't get me wrong, I got love for them and respect them. I think I just grew out of them..the Sex Pistols are more like an "introduction to punk" and while many people assimilate the Clash with the Pistols and discover them around the same time..the two are very different and I kinda view the Clash as being better developed and well, more mature.

Both great punk bands, no question, i think the Clash were the better of the two
talent wise, and more of a REAL band, as they showed some versatility in their
music, whereas the pistols were more one dimensional, but still without
question GREAT at what they did and embodied true punk like no other band
possibly ever!
I cannot decide who was better, they were just different!

Also, big fan of DK, Jello is am effin genius. I have seen them live at least a couple dozen times. And have been lucky enough to catch him ranting once in a pub in the Bay area. But the last time I saw DK was up in Alaska in March of 06, new lead singer, but my god just based on sound, you would have never known. Took my kid and she had a blast too. Even got her DK hoody signed by the band...She was only 8 then, but she could have died happy that night...
