the pistols got me in to punk so them (seeing as people have missed the point and think theyre 'manufactured'... do they know anything about the history of the pistols???) whereas the clash were on their own trip and werent even punk from london calling onward, the pistols changed musical history with one album, it took the clash their whole career and joe strummer dying for us to realise hes a moody middle cla** tosser

actually the pistols were manufactured, sid viscious was recruited becuase of his looks and attitude, he couldnt even play base. Yeah i know my history and some people here act like its thier time but actuallly unless they are in thier mid 40's they have no idea what the punk scene was about

i think its more the way malcolm mcclaren manipulated them that makes it come across as manufactured. johnny rotten has always been the way he is and the music might of been the same without him, one thing i do find suspicious is how well steve jones could play in such a short time so i can see where the theories come from

the above is all meant in the best PAHSSIBLE taste

mclaren chosed/appoved members.
changed the bands name.
and changed the line up.

as i said in another topic.

the bands on x factor are less manufactured.

total bulls**t!!! the band already existed, they just wanted malcolms help management wise as he'd worked with the new york dolls (very badly it has to be said) johnny rotten was off on his own thing before he even joined the band (he got noticed by bernie rhodes wearing a i hate pink floyd shirt and green hair) the name sex pistols came from malcolms shop (sex) and i believe the pistols bit meant penis. anyway what does it matter if ya think theyre manufactured or not their only album changed the music world, the clash's first did not

mclaren was linked to the and, way before sid or johnny. i believe he managed the band when they were first called the strand (not positive of the name)

???

you just confirmed my first two points.
although i was refering to sid, when i said mclaren chosed/approved members.
but johnny was picked for the same reasons as sid was, stupid reasons, because they looked the part.
what does it matter where mclaren got the name? fact is he choosed the bands name, which is really pathetic.
and mclaren also changed the lineup of the band.
making johnny the singer.

it doesn't really matter if they're manfactured, but i do find it funny that they are named as one of the greatest punk bands, even though the way they came to be, is pretty much the opposite of punk.

the pistols may of made more of an impact, but the clash at least had talent.

pistols were a bunch of angry teenagers attention seeking.

Yes indeed. Pistols had very little musical ability. That's the reality.

(I'll duck and cover now)

well glen matlock was a good player of his instrument, the others just didnt like him, and its only natural for people to be swapped about in bands, look how many changes the sugababes have had! fact of the matter is ill always defend the pistols no matter what cuz they got me in to punk and the clash were only punk when it suited them, after the second album they were no longer true punks, more rock n roll and reggae and god knows what else... and joe strummer was a tosser with no sense of humour

im sure glen was a half decent musican, afterall (if im not mistaken) he secretly played the ba** parts for sid during performances, and also reportly dubbed over sids ba** playing in their album.

sure the clash varied their music, is that really a bad thing. just shows that they were more creative.

I like the Pisols Better. They led the way to all the rest of the other punk bands. The Clash are pretty f**king awesome, but they didn't rock the boat or profess as big as a legacy as the Pistols.

Plus, Pistols came first

no, i just meant like a lot of people my age and younger go on about it like they were part of the scene, when in fact the pistols and clash were in the height of thier fame when i was 7 years old, we wasnt allowed green hair or safety pins in our noses at junior school
