I've heard that they're illegal but I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over for it.

I did find this too.

Quote:
LIGHTING
Q. Is it legal to fit neon strip lights under car, down the sides and at the front and back?

A: Neon strip lights can be fitted provided they comply with the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989, i.e. they should have white to the front, white or amber to the sides, and red to the rear. They would have to be independently switched and fitted so as not to cause any undue dazzle or discomfort to other road users.

Q: Can I fit neon lights to inside of car?

A: Answer virtually the same as above if the lights can be seen from the outside of the vehicle. If they are any other colour they must not be visible from the outside and must not cause undue dazzle or discomfort to road users. If due to their position or intensity they effect the drivers ability to drive safely then there is the possiblility of an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1988 sec 40a. This refers to causing danger to road users.

The worst to use would be blue neons. During my brief research i read a couple of incidents of people getting arrested for impersonating a police vehicle...

Stumblin' that's a good site, I'll have to remember that too.

There are times when I've wondered if something was a law or not a didn't have the means to find out.

"white to the front, white or amber to the sides, and red to the rear" well that sucks only white and red? and i know its kinda dangerous cause it distracts other drivers but when they say they need to be "properly fitted" that basicly means you shouldnt be able to see any

It doesn't really matter wether or not its legal. When you buy the undercar neons, you can wire them to a switch in your car pretty much the same way you could wire in a N2O bottle. You can install a switch (like a lightswitch) that turns it on or off, so the cops wont notice, and you can hook up a radar detector so you know when they're coming. And yes, you mount neon on your interior. They have tubes as small as 4", and you can mold some into any shape you want.. One of my neighbors is all into that tuner car stuff, so i know a lot about it. I prefer muscle cars though.

alright for australian rev-heads...

it is Illegal to drive with Neons on... that is both on the inside and the outside however if you are parked you can have them on...

i do believe that is the same through out almost all of the world but couldent tell you

one other question im interested in is...

Racing harnesses. Any one know if their street legal in australia?... i guess i could always go to a poliece station and ask them they should know and if they dont than cant be illegal i guess :P

If at first you dont succeed... hire an assassin for you
