I am watching the Foo Fighters on BBC2, and always thought they only use one drummer, why do some bands have two drummers? I always thought one was noisy enough?

They don't.

They have Taylor on drums like usual, and they have Drew Hester on percussion.

Why 2? same reason you have multiple anything musical.

Sometimes you need the drums to be heard over the rest of the music though, you might want a thicker texture or something. Plus it makes it rouher I imagine.

I saw Franz Ferdinand live at Benicassim a while back and they brought out 5 drummers, was crazy.

"heard over the rest of the music" isn't really it, especailly since they are all mic'ed up.

Usually more than one drumer is used to play more complex rhythms that a single drummer would be unable to do alone. or one accents the other, create a *thicker* sound. any reason really down to just showing off.

To be fair that was a complete guess, I'm definitely no drummer

Yeah, I know that some bring out more, but that was mainly for showmanship
