I am currently bickering with a member over his/her statement of St. Patrick:

Quote:
Saint Patrick was engineer, he was. He invented the electric light so engineers could study all night. He invented the calculus, and he handed it down for us to cuss. He invented the davenport (I had to google davenport), so engineers could have indoor sport.

First of all, St. Patrick was born in the 3rd century. Second, he was a priest.

I did an entire history report on St. Partick a week ago. And I know it's not correct. But I wanted your input anyway...

To be honest I don't have a clue, but I read the thread you're referring to. You seem to be more sensible on the subject. I believe you.

I'm utterly dumbfounded right now.

There's a 1600 year difference between the St. Patrick and electricity.

Well actually, the myth came about when Saint Patrick brought Christianity/Catholicism to Ireland and "banishing" the snakes.
The snake is the ancient symbol of the pagans.

St. Patrick also was gentle with the Irish, he incorporated a lot of their old symbols and heritage into the teachings. Like the Celtic Cross.

It's all very interesting.

I being Irish!!

It was Eddison that invented the electric light. Unless his name was St Patrick Thomas Eddison, an Irish American, who also invented Guinness.
May be this should be on the made up facts thread?
