It isn't a nice thing, my daughter has it at the moment, she's been quite poorly.

I had it a lot as a child, i had mine out at 5 years old, but i still got it again last year well the doctor said, if you had tonsils you'd have raging tonsilitis by now

A chest infection and tonsilitus is the same bug, just depends on where it settles. I still get that "hurts when i swallow" feeling even now, But they do say ya tonsils grow back

Not really. Wants the point in performing a surgical procedure on a child when there is a good chance that the child will grow out of it when there immune system strengthens? Its unessecary.

I however was a different caes.

but even so they 'might' grow out of it, but after having it regularly for a couple years its gotta be having a bad affect on the child.

Apparently not. Although I disagree. They are the professionals, and they have their reasons. You have to trust them

Well they say that if you have had your tonsils out, your prone to chest infections, because the bug has no where to sit - because you have no tonsils - so

I have to say, ive never had a bad chest infection since having them out. I now suffer more with my sinus's. I dont know if thats in any way connected

I have another problem, this morning i woke up to my tounge being very dry (usually lack of water as it hurts when i swallow water). as i scraped my tounge with my front teeth, a layer of white foamy substance came off, it was like a slimey white stuff. Any ideas on this? or how to prevent it ?

And thanks all the people who have posted. Anyones contribution helps me ALOT and i am very greatful.

The white foam is called candidosis and is a typical undesirable side effect of the medicament. It can cause discomfort and pain of the tongue. Please contact you doctor (if you cannot attend directly, also by phone) and ask him how to handle with this side effect. Eventually he has to give you a supplemental treatment to control it. By itself it shouldn't be a big problem but you see him/contact him. Once the treatment with your antibiotic ends, your candidosis will vanish. Just contact your medical doctor for a follow up visit.

Candidosis is a tipical "opportunist" that is a little fungus that is normally present in everybody's mouth and is living peacefully together with us. But it is also a "little opportunistic bastard" that tries to take advantage of every situation in which your immune system is occupied to defend you from other bugs (like the bacteria which are causing you this pain of your throat. Your doctor will give you the right treatment to give it a "kick" and turn peaceful again.

If i stop taking penicillin the tonsilitis will return WITH a immunity to penicillin treatments!?!?! :O

It will only be a problem if you are not attending to the prescription and stop prematurely the treatment. Once your treatment time is over you have of course to stop the use of penicillin.

You also should take antibiotics only if your MD prescribes them.

What you should know:
once you develop an allergy to a antibiotic or once your bacterium is resistant to the antibiotic this problem will regard the whole chemical family of this antibiotic. That is a bacterium that is resistant against penicillin will be resistant against all the different formula of penicillin, and your MD will have to switch the treatment to another compound. Since the number of compounds is limited, it is so important not to cause bacteria to get resistant. So you and others will always have a suitable treatment available.
