Yo, i've had this horrible tonsilitis for a week now and today i finally got on my nerves and i went down to the doctors, he subscribed me to Pehnoxymethylpenicillin, some type of penicillin lol. I researched it and came up with that this drug attacks the cell of the infection, removing its cell wall, causing the cells to fall apart...

Does anyone know anything else about this? will it do this to my biological cells? or any health advice after i stop taking this drug?

I've taken 3 of these tablets out of the 4 a day i have to take. I only got given these this afternoon at 12. Swelling has decreased about 40% now thanks to this penicillin.

Dont know anything about the medication your taking but taking natural yoghurt is excellent too.

Your body is made of cells that have another biology then the ones of an unicellular organism than a bacteria. To simplify it to the maximum when you take the substance "penicillin" it interferes with the mechanism that the bacterium needs to build its own new cell walls. The cell wall breaks and the organism dies.

Your body cells have membranes and not cellwalls and do not react therefore to the medicament.

What is VERY important: penicillin (originally found by Flemming through a casual error in laboratory) is the metabolic product of mushrooms. They are normally very efficient when you use them in ENT (ear-nose-throat) affections, provided the bacterium is not resistant.

One of the reasons that bacteria get resistant is that patients (that you right now

) are not compliant with the prescription of the doctor. The medicament works best when taken in the prescribed doses and in regular intervals. If you do not follow the prescription or stop the treatment before (because you feel "good" already) you are playing into the hands of the bacteria

. The survivors have the possibility to develop special substances (called enzymes, kind of biological scissors) that will nil the efficiency of the medicament the next time you are ill. More than this, if you transmit some of this bacteria to another person, also in her the medicament will not work anymore.

We say in this case the bacterium is "resistant". Therefore PLEASE be absolutely compliant (it is really very important) with the doses prescribed to you and to the treatment duration. You will do this for the sake of your health and the one of others.

Yes my mum gave me the same advise, she said if i stopped the medication because i am (feeling better) it will come back with vengance... believe me i will take every last tablet until the packet is gone (28 tablets) - 4 a day, last a week.

Its now been 21 hours since i started this penicillin (Phenoxymethylpenicillin) - the swelling has decreased by about 60%. How long do you think it will take? I'd hate this stupid bacteria to ruin my weekend. I don't mind still having the infection, just i want rid of this swelling tonsil (that causes verbal distortions as i speak):@

Nurofen + helps the pain when i swallow... Am i allowed to take nurofen + when im taking penicillin? my doctor didn't say a word when I told him i was taking nurofen at the time.

I have another problem, this morning i woke up to my tounge being very dry (usually lack of water as it hurts when i swallow water). as i scraped my tounge with my front teeth, a layer of white foamy substance came off, it was like a slimey white stuff. Any ideas on this? or how to prevent it ?

And thanks all the people who have posted. Anyones contribution helps me ALOT and i am very greatful.

If i stop taking penicillin the tonsilitis will return WITH a immunity to penicillin treatments!?!?! :O

gargle with aspirin as well as continue the penicillin, ice pops and ice cubes will help a great deal also.

yeah i know, i had it like 6 times in the winter before

it sucked but still when i dont have it, its deffo got the best perks

I had the bug constantly. It would just resurface. When they took my tonsils out they gasped

I wouldnt wish it upon anyone. I would go so much as to say, having had it ALOT throughout my childhood, it ruined part of it

it takes them forever to take them out doesnt it?! you have to have it like constantly for like a year/year and a half before they consider it.

When I was younger, you had to wait and be watched for four years. they wont do it when your younger.

oh really?! how old were you when you had yours out?!

coz one of the girls at school had it constantly from like yer 9 til 11 then they took themout in the summer after leaving school
