“Ethical veganism,” which I use interchangeably with “abolitionist veganism,” goes beyond a vegan diet and rejects direct animal consumption or use of any kind. An ethical vegan has a vegan diet and rejects consuming animal products but also does not wear or use any animal products. An ethical vegan rejects the commodification of nonhumans as property. An ethical vegan is committed to the abolition of animal exploitation. Moreover, ethical vegans recognize that an animal-based agriculture harms other humans as well as non-humans and sees the connection between human rights and animal rights. Ethical veganism is the moral baseline of the animal rights movement. Ethical veganism represents a commitment to non-violence in one’s daily living.

It is clear that any reasonable definition of “a vegan” or “veganism” always goes beyond mere diet and always includes the ethical reasons for avoiding animal products. Therefore, phrases like “vegan diet” are confusing [1] and phrases like “ethical vegan” are redundant.

I wish some people would put as much effort into helping other humans as they do with helping animals.

Don't you think the two are connected? For example, animal rights philosophy is based on principles of human rights thinking and sees all animals as rightholders.

Since veganism is the moral baseline for animal rights, this helps human animals too: link [www.vegansociety.com]

We're talking 36 years of the body being conditioned to burn beef and fowl as a major food source. I'm afraid my health would suffer if I made a drastic change.

However

If I could start from the start again knowing what I know now it would be fish, eggs, vegetables and fruits only.

And man oh man would I be gassy!

Gas is less of a problem than violating rights!

There are many reasons that new vegetarians and vegans may experience gas. The standard American diet that most of us were raised on is centered around highly refined and processed items, dairy products, and meats -- none of which contain dietary fiber. Hence the proliferation of stool softeners (made of soluble fiber) and laxatives. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes are loaded with fiber, which is vital for intestinal health and proper elimination. It takes time for our digestive system to adjust to this drastic change in diet and accommodate the healthful incorporation of more fibrous foods.

It's good to hear from someone that knows what they're on about. So do Vegan's have to give up milk? The lil' boy in me could never give up moo juice.

No, there are lots of different plant milks. "Moo juice" is another matter. Moo juice is actually baby food.

If you go vegan you can also become fully weaned (we are the only mammal to regularly consume the baby food of others into adulthood): link [vegetarier-sind-moerder.de]

Also mice eat cheese and birds peck through milk bottle tops on the doorstep to drink the milk
