This is a well known country song, and I'm sure all the country fans know it. For those who rarely hear country music, I posted the lyrics. My taste in music is ALL over the place, but this song just pisses me off. Here's how I interpret the story of it:

This a*****e is with his wife while she's in labor. 18 hours. Sucks, right? But HE had to take a BREAK?? POOR f***in baby! So this dumb redneck leaves his wife in labor, to get coffee and go on a "spiritual journey". He walks around looking at the pretty flowers and sunsets, and it seems he missed the birth of his daughter because he was out frolicking while his wife gave birth alone. Then the deadbeat bastard comes back all proud of himself because the baby he did NOTHING to help with, has his name on her. Awwwww how sweet. If I were this dumb redneck's (the character in the song) wife, I'd make SURE that baby didn't have his name, so he couldn't be so proud about it. Then I'd hand him the divorce papers.

I Saw God Today~George Strait

Just walked down the street to the coffee shop
Had to take a break
I'd been by her side for 18 hours straight
Saw a flower growin' in the middle of the sidewalk
Pushin' up through the concrete
Like it was planted right there for me to see
The flashin' lights
The honkin' horns
All seemed to fade away
In the shadow of that hospital at 5:08
I saw God today

I've been to church
I've read the book
I know he's here
But I don't look
Near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I just slowed down to stop and stare
Opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today

Saw a couple walkin' by they were holdin' hands
Man she had that glow
Yeah I couldn't help but notice she was startin' to show it
Stood there for a minute takin' the sky
Lost in that sunset
Splash of amber melted in the shades of red

I've been to church
I've read the book
I know he's here
But I don't look
Near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I just slowed down to stop and stare
Opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today

Got my face pressed up against the nursery glass
She's sleepin' like a rock
My name on her wrist
Wearin' tiny pink socks
She's got my nose, she's got her mama's eyes
My brand new baby girl
She's a miracle
I saw God today

Yes. I know the song. My dad is a huge George Strait fan, and huge fan of country in general...

Wow, you took it to a whole new level. Somewhere where it REALLY didn't need to go.

How do you know he wasn't there?
And how do you know his wife wan't sleeping and/or told him to take a break?
Believe it or not, not all women are that freaked out by labor and need their man beside them the entire time. She probably figured she had a few hours to go so her husband getting a coffee wasn't a lucifer deed.

Jesus, man...

No, the OP
"this song offends me, let it be banned in all countries"

lol sorry, that's just how the song came across to me. Shoulda known I'd piss off a lotta country fans. But he said "had" to take a break, not "she told me to" take a break. I found it annoying that SHE's the one in labor, but HE had to take a break. And I'm not a baby farmer, I don't have kids yet, and labor will damn sure freak me out. If my man goes on a happy lil walk while this is going on, he will be handed his walking papers. Don't everybody get all offended now. It's just MY interpretation.

I'm not that much of a country fan, my father is.

You can interpret the song anyway you want, but what does concern me is the femdom about it.
Guys are human too..

Ummm ok, because that's EXACTLY what I said...Hey, you're free to like it all you want. Just posting my opinion because it got on my nerves earlier. Maybe I should have posted it somewhere other than the "Country" forum? I guess I didn't realize every rebel flag waving, pickup truck driving, NRA member would gang up on me for this...

Not all of em. Just the ones who are pissed because I have an opinion on ONE damn song! Ugh! Damn, the song rubbed me the wrong way, so I just put my interpretation out there, and people get all mad and start b****ing about how I'm politically correct and want it banned worldwide. Ummm...no. I was actually half amused when I wrote all that, and nobody has a sense of humor and they all got their shotguns out!
