Cinnamon![]() USA, | #31 @MAW Said ![]() In 1981, following the election of US President Ronald Reagan, aid for the mujahideen through Zia's Pakistan significantly increased, mostly due to the efforts of Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson and CIA officer Gust Avrakotos. US "Paramilitary Officers" from the CIA's Special Activities Division were instrumental in training, equipping and sometimes leading Mujihadeen forces against the Soviet Army. Although the CIA in general and Charlie Wilson, a Texas Congressman, have received most of the attention, the key architect of this strategy was Michael G. Vickers, a young Paramilitary Officer.[91] Michael Pillsbury, a senior Pentagon official overcame bureaucratic resisistance in 1985-1986 and persuaded President Reagan to provide hundreds of Stinger missiles.[92][93] And now we're going back to 1981. Ok, you've answered the question about this "poor sad Politics board" ... Just kidding, I enjoy your humor. g'night - off to dinner ... the New Year celebration continues ... ![]()

Just kidding, I enjoy your humor. g'night - off to dinner ... the New Year celebration continues ... Jihad in Afghanistan Main articles: Soviet war in Afghanistan and Islamic mujahid movement CIA-funded and ISI-trained mujahideen fighters from Pakistan crossing the Durand Line border to fight the Soviet forces and the Afghan government in 1985.The origins of al-Qaeda as a network inspiring terrorism around the world and training operatives can be traced to the Soviet War in Afghanistan (December 1979 – February 1989).[71] The U.S. viewed the conflict in Afghanistan, with the Afghan Marxists and allied Soviet troops on one side and the native Afghan mujahideen, some of whom were radical Islamic militants, on the other, as a blatant case of Soviet expansionism and aggression. The U.S. channeled funds through Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency to the Afghan Mujahideen fighting the Soviet occupation in a CIA program called Operation Cyclone.[72][73] At the same time, a growing number of Arab mujahideen joined the jihad against the Afghan Marxist regime, facilitated by international Muslim organizations, particularly the Maktab al-Khidamat,[74] whose funds came from some of the $600 million a year donated to the jihad by the Saudi Arabia government and individual Muslims—particularly independent Saudi businessmen who were approached by bin Laden.[75][page needed] Maktab al-Khidamat (MAK), or the "Services Office", a Muslim organization founded to raise and channel funds and recruit foreign mujahideen for the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan, was established by Abdullah Yusuf Azzam, a Palestinian Islamic scholar and member of the Muslim Brotherhood, and bin Laden in Peshawar, Pakistan, in 1984. MAK organized guest houses in Peshawar, near the Afghan border, and gathered supplies for the construction of paramilitary training camps to prepare foreign recruits for the Afghan war front. Bin Laden became a "major financier" of the mujahideen, spending his own money and using his connections with "the Saudi royal family and the petro-billionaires of the Gulf" in order to improve public opinion of the war and raise more funds.[76] Remember, don't vote republican as they fund the jihad! I mean they've got history. Are you sure you want to give them a 2nd chance?

| ThePainefulTruth Verum est Deus Deleted ![]() Peoria, Arizona | #34 You mean the rampant fear by the non-useful idiots of us who recognize what's going on? @MAW Said ![]() Maybe you ought to participate in the politics forum more often. Might get your blinders off about what's going on in the world around you. 'Course I understand your ambition to work your way up the ranks of the fascist political operatives, but hey, you made your bed to be a hired gun. It's just...so....simple, the Truth is a lot easier!!! @raditz Said ![]() Blame Obama for those. If he weren't so incompetent we wouldn't be able to create "Bash Obama" threads, now would we? crazylikeafox![]() Arvada, Colorado | #35 @Cinnamon Said ![]() It's always about good v. evil. However, sadly, the parties are not as clear-cut as they used to be. Now the 2010 elections, wow, that separated the wheat from the chaff and gave America real hope. I pray the same for this year. I pray for God's mercy on America. Amen. No, it's still clear cut. "we" are always good and "they" are always evil. The only difference is whether the person talking is a Liberal or a Conservative. Of course, the person talking will declare they NEVER use us vs them rhetoric, even if they just posted a long diatribe embracing it. | ||||||

crazylikeafox![]() Arvada, Colorado | #36 @MAW Said ![]() The United States, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia became major financial contributors, the United States donating "$600 million in aid per year, with a matching amount coming from the Persian Gulf states."[94] The People's Republic of China also sold Type 59 tanks, Type 68 assault rifles, Type 56 assault rifles, Type 69 RPGs, and much more to mujahideen in co-operation with the CIA, as did Egypt with assault rifles. Most notably the CIA donated FIM-92 Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems, which caused notable changes to Soviet tactics. The Stinger missile locked on to infra-red emissions from aircraft, particularly engine exhaust, and was resistant to interference from decoy flares. Countermeasure flares and a missile warning systems were later installed in all Soviet Mi-2, Mi-8, and Mi-24 helicopters and Soviet fighter aircraft, giving pilots a chance to evade the missile. Heat dissipaters were also fitted to exhausts to decrease the Mi-24's heat signature. These reduced the Stinger threat but did not eliminate it. Good old Republicans! Siding with the Chinese commies and the muslims here! See what I told you? Unlike the good old Democrats that sided with Stalin in the 1940's? There's a little saying I want you to keep in mind, because it's going to go a very long way in understanding international politics. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

white_swan53![]() right here, | #39 @Cinnamon Said ![]() May it rest in peace. When I was posting before this board was hopping. Granted, it was full of silliness from a few uninformed posters, but it was still fun. Upon my return, it seems like one poster has taken over this politics forum. If I put it on 'block' - most of the first page would disappear. So, what's going on? Are you all so turned off by spam posters or are you sick of politics? If you're sick of politics ... this is the wrong year to be visiting a politics board. So, I ask, what's the slow down on this board lately? Did you all give up? Curious. thanks It may be because any time some one thinks a politician should be held accountable for their words , actions or deeds , it becomes a mud slinging mess .JMO

| treebee Government Hooker ![]() London, United Kingdom | #41 It was hopping because people had not yet realised that arguing politics with some people here is as productive as putting ones head in a metal bucket and having someone smash the bucket up with a baseball bat. Now people have caught on to this they are waiting for the looneys to get bored of having nobody to argue with and hopefully they will piss off elsewhere. If your politics thread is ignored chances are nobody even cares what you think. | ||||||
