| crazychica A taste of insanity ![]() Aberdeen, United Kingdom | #1 So I'm watching Star Trek (I know I know, I was raised by a Trekkie so shush) and I'm watching the episode Hide and Q from The Next Generation. Q tries to make a deal with Picard, kind of like the one God and Satan made about Job. Q gives Rikker his powers in an attempt to again "test" mankind. Riker starts out with good intentions, saving the bridge-crew of the Enterprise from the certain death Q set up for them while at the same time asking Picard if he was sure Riker could pass the test. On their return Picard asks Riker not to use the powers and tells him that Q only did this to mess with the Enterprise crew. Riker agrees but then they find a little girl, dead. Riker is unable to help due to the promise he made to Picard. He decides to go with Q but to give each crew member a parting-gift, abusing his new powers kind of. What would you do in a situation like that? If you could have that kind of power, but at a price, would you take it? | ||||||

Electric_Banana![]() Pastel Avon Suburbia, New Zeal | #2 I remember Stark Trek basing its stories around metaphysics or logic sciences that have yet to be proven - this sounds like it jumped the shark and went a bit fantasy. BUT Hypothetically, if you could have and do it all on whim, you wouldn't want any of it. You'd be bored s***less. Infinitely bored s***less. It's like the question if you could cast a spell to charm a woman to love you, would you? Would her love be of any value if it were not honest and of her own desire and ambition?

I take it you never watched TNG then?

Electric_Banana![]() Pastel Avon Suburbia, New Zeal | #4 Not much of it. Only the specific episodes that involved conspiracy theories as I used to be into those kinds of stories before I realized that those ideas might be slightly probable. I had a friend who was really into The Next Generation so sometimes, just to be company for him, I would sit through the episodes with him. My mom was a huge fan of the original Star Trek and I liked those more because they more philosophically inspirational....even though they were much cheesier.

Electric_Banana![]() Pastel Avon Suburbia, New Zeal | #10 And that's pretty much how most episodes sound if they're playing in the background and you're not directly watching them.

| tariki Deleted ![]() , United Kingdom | #11 l've always loved the line from the British Sitcom "Just Good Friends" where Penny is introducing boyfriend Vince to some ardent "New Age" woman. This woman says....."I'm a vegan. You DO know what a vegan is, don't you Vince?" "Of course", he says, "I've watched every episode of Star Trek" | ||||||

Would her love be of any value if it were not honest and of her own desire and ambition? You'd be surprised how many people would. A lot of people just want instant convenience and gratification; that's partly why the internet as we know it exists.
