Interesting Fact: There actually
was an attempt in the past to turn the US fascist.
Back in 1933, retired Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler claimed that wealthy businessmen were plotting to create a fascist veterans' organization with Butler as the leader, and eventually use it in a coup d'état to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Butler testified before the US' now defunct House Un-American Activities Committee in 1934, but 'surprisingly,' none of the businessmen involved in the supposed plot were brought to justice. Butler said that he 'went along' with the idea because he knew it had the potential to reshape the country and he wanted to make sure that didn't happen. The businessmen wanted to use Butler because he was such a charismatic and influential soldier, being a veteran of both The Banana Wars and World War 1.
If you can find it, his book
War Is a Racket explains his take on how the military is used, the corrupt misinformations that are willingly spread to keep the public invested and supporting their troops (who in some cases are the
invading force, like The Banana Wars and Iraq) and how it's usually in the best interests of companies and not the country in which some wars are fought (again, like the Banana Wars and Iraq).
The plot was foiled, but before his death, Smedley Butler predicted that some sort of similar coup might be attempted in the future and that he hoped that people would be able to see it coming.
