22/M/Grand Rapids, Michigan Join Date: Jan 2008 | March 13, 1997, thousands of witnesses claim to have seen light formations in the sky all over the state.
I moved to Arizona, outside Apache Junction, in January of '07 and stayed there for about 5 months. In February, the news showed footage of lights suspended in the night sky for several hours.
They said it was flares, but I don't understand how these flares could stay in such a perfect formation and hardly move over such extended periods of time.
Government cover-up or extremely mistaken coincidence?

On a side note, shortly after seeing the news on the return of the Phoenix Lights, I witnessed what appeared to me to be an "alien craft". It was daytime and visibility was good, very few clouds in the sky... but one caught my eye. The clouds themselves seemed to outline an invisible object, saucer shaped. The object itself remained in the same general location and distinct cloud-outlined-shape for approximately 30-minutes... I don't recall it being windy, but I know it was very windy later that month.

It's still withheld information, regardless of what it is.
Not only did thousands of people witness the "object" in the sky, the sightings were reported all across the state. This thing had to be large and flying at a high altitude for the entire state to see it...
And if it was an experimental aircraft, why did they take so long to come up with an answer? Assuming they knew it was going out for a night-time stroll, wouldn't they have had more time to come up with a decent story? I'd say they'd have to have anticipated that SOMEONE would see this thing.
But NO they danced around the issue for as long as they could and finally gave a weak explanation.
Fife Symington, former governor of Arizona claims to also have witnessed the event in '97. He moderated a panel of former high-ranking officials and military officials on the subject in November.
Many people can claim that Symington isn't a credible source because of his alleged crimes, but it obviously didn't change the view of the panel or President 'Pardon' Clinton.

As far as UFOs or alien crafts go, I'm willing to say that I do NOT know for sure that ANY of these sightings were actual alien ships... but people have seen similar objects in the sky for thousands of years now and everyone of them is labelled a liar. I've heard of every different kind of person claiming to see a UFO, from priests to teachers, firemen and air force pilots... the chances that every single person in the history of humanity that has seen something odd in the sky was delusional is just plain nuts.
The point is people saw SOMETHING. We can't explain it so we turn to those who are in the position to do so and we get fingers-up-noses.

22/M/Grand Rapids, Michigan Join Date: Jan 2008 | Extraterrestrials and UFOs have been described by human beings for thousands of years, it's obvious they don't mind sharing themselves with humanity... what are we going to do about it?
Who's to say the miracles witnessed by early christians as described in the bible weren't created by superior intelligence from another planet? (Stargate anyone?)
I would have thought that for such a scientific community that bases everything on fact and data would give their ears more to a theory containing extraterrestrials over miracles of god.
They know that WE know we're helpless. Firstly, they know that we won't attack them simply because we're curious enough to want to know more about them and their technologies. And if these creatures are capable of interplanetary travel, I think it's safe to assume they have precautionary defenses (or offense)...
And I know it's a long stretch, but how about them Men in Black?
Perhaps the Arizonan deserts are the perfect place to "meet" with alien species. Even though thousands of people witnessed the craft, not one person was capable of doing anything about it... even though this thing was large, no one knew exactly where it was. Kinda like looking for a needle in a haystack.

And the flare thing is bull.
The US Air Force claimed that the flares were dropped by A-10 Thunderbolt aircrafts in training excercises at Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range. But the range stretches along the Arizona-Mexico border, to the southwest of Phoenix. Reports from many eyewitnesses claim to have seen the objects from all over the state, as well as the "flares" above Phoenix itself.
Why would the US Air Force deviate from the designated region used specificically for the purpose of military training drop flares above/around a major city?
Not one part of this poor explanation covers the entirety of what took place that night. Many thousands of people from all over the state (and some from Nevada) witnessed lights and UFOs flying over or near them southward, where they were seen to have stopped over Phoenix.
Seemingly coincidentally, on the same night, the Air Force was dropping flares in military excersises in the same state and in the same formation as the lights reported by people hundreds of miles to the north.
Yeah. Right.
(And flares don't burn for nearly 2-hours. And they don't fly around states. And they don't magically teleport from Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range to Phoenix. But are quite luminous and give off smoke... which aren't apparent in any witness videos or accounts.)
