There has never been a musical genius to match John Lennon, and I doubt there ever will be.

Well that's just silly...What about McCartney...They both had their respective talents magnified by the fast that they're true contribution to The Beatles is obscured!

The Bealtes are a massive obsession of mine. The early songs lyrics aren't really for me but you can't beat those tunes. Thery'e all just irresistable. As for the mid-late Beatles when they just wrote about anything and were more cool and arty, well they just wrote even more delicious melodies and adorned them with interesting and often beautiful poetry.
Then they ended up hating each other and broke in a most spectaculry nasty fashion. Pity really. But they put the worst of it behind them and by the time John died were on pretty good terms.

I'm listening to them right now

In 1966 a Beatles album was released and almost immediately withdraw. The reason was that it became apparant that many people found the cover to be distasteful. It has since become known as 'the butcher cover!'

Ob-la-di ob-la-da was one of the most fractious songs the Beatles ever recorded. John Lennon and George Harrison both hated it from the start,John called it Pauls granny s**t!
To make matters worse Paul insisted on re-recording it many times till he got it right. Richard Lush who was the enigineer on these sessions recalled..."After about 4 or 5 nights doing Ob-la-di ob-la-da John Lennon came to the session really stoned, totally out of it on something or other, and he said 'alright, we're gonna do Ob-la-di ob-la-da'. He went straight to the piano and smashed the keys with an almighty amount of volume, twice the speed of how they'ed done it before, and said 'that's it! Come on !' He was really agravated. That was the version they ended up using."

Worst song ever...

CDuck's BEATLE TOTD!
Paul Mccartney was the first Beatle to record a song without the others...yesterday in 1965. He went on to record several more Blackbird, Mother natures son,Martha my dear and wild honey pie. George Harrison recorded within you without you on his own and John Lennon recorded Julia on his own.
There are two songs on which no Beatle plays any instruments at all...Eleanor Rigby and She's Leaving Home!!

CDucks' BEATLE TOTD
The beatles first scandal...In 1963 John Lennon and Beatles manager Brian Epstein went on holliday to Spain. When they got back they went to Paul Mccartneys 21st birhtday party. During this party local dj Bob Wooler taunted Lennon about the holiday and suggested that he'd gone 'cause he was gay like B.Epsteinand they'd fallen in love. Lennon kicked the s**t out of Wooler and the incident made the back page of a national paper...To keep the case out of caught Epstein arranged for his lawyer to pay Wooler £200. compensation which was about 2-3 months pay for most people in 1963!

Didn't he actually go to Spain with his wife (I forget which) though and brought Brian along as a sort of "decoy" because the affair had to be secretive?
