I have a very old mirror 40ins x 36ins weighing close to 20lbs. it was made before mirrors were ma** produced by hand painting a beveled piece of gla** on the backside with a dull dark coating, some brush strokes can be seen though the mirror . I need to get that 'detail' clearly so an appraiser can see its the 'real macoy', I want to photograph it so I can get it appraised on line, Any ideas how to get a clear photo without any 'glare' ? I have tried a few things like ,a soft lighted back ground and a dark background , zooming in close with and without flash, I can't figure out how to get the brush strokes in clear detail while getting a good pic of the whole mirror ,I have gotten a nice pic of only the 'details and one of whole mirror but not any of both.,, ???

I'm not a photographer but when I want to view a glossy computer screen clearly I put the lights in my room behind the screen.

it might work if you put the light behind the mirror so the brush strokes are illuminated from the other side in the photo. Kind of like stained glass.

Just throwing that out there.

tbh, id get a dude to come out and value it. no matter what you do in taking a pic. they cant value it fully till they see the piece in person i think.

Plus a photo will not show all the detail properly.

thats my advice
