And the G5 is just a different name for the Grand Am. Been there. Done that. Not that great. I've driven the G6 as well. Not nearly as fun to drive as my Subaru!
Actually the G6 is the replacement car for the Grand Am, not the G5. I bought a 2006 G6 GTP last year. It's a great all around car for me. In my opinion it's the best car out there for $16,500. I wanted a cobalt SS but couldn't afford one. And before that I had a 1990 F250. It has 230,000 miles on the original engine and is still running.

I will probably get flamed for this, but don't buy American! However much you spend for an American car, for the same price you can get something foreign that is much better quality and will last you much longer!
I thought about a mini or an Evo, but in the end I ended up buying a Subaru Legacy Spec B. I don't know if you know how to drive a manual, but it is the best car I have ever had (and my first manual). I LOVE it. Subaru is extremely reliable, and it is a fast little car. It has basically the same engine as the WRX STi. Doesn't get great gas milage, but isn't horrible either. It is also all wheel drive so it is great for my Michigan winters.
It is also very luxurious with heated leather seats, navigation, HUGE trunk with fold down back seats, moon roof etc for under $40K.
And my Subaru would smoke your would-be-Mustang any day of the week!
sorry, but that wouldn't stand a chance. the max hp i'm seeing for engines on that is 250, which gives even my car a chance to beat yours. You got ripped off for the price you paid.

Relatively expensive.
My $800 motorcycle will be just a hair behind the both of you, hitting 60 mph at 7.0 seconds... and in a 1/4-mile drag race with Legacy Spec.B, G6 GTP, Mustang GT, it'll come in second only to the Mustang

I've had 2 fords for the past 7 years or so. Also great cars. Haven't had any problems with them either. Ford DOES make a good car. Their v8's are great.
The only car we've had problems with was a new Cadillac. Thing was always having issues.
I'm still in love with the Mustang GT, but having doubts now that I saw gas at over 4 bucks a gallon. Holy Cow! That's enough to make even me rethink my position on what I consider egg beaters as cars. I'm in a quandary. Just don't know what to do.
Well, a fast compact car, like the cobatl ss, suburu impreza, etc. will still get great gas mileage, if you're interested in one.
