So what would you do?

Your spouse is against body art of any kind. For whatever reason, doesn't matter. But you are for it, and would like to get something done on your body. Do you do it?

Also, if you've been in this position, feel free to share.

Myself, I am fine with body art. I was born and raised around it. In fact, I watched my brother get his first tattoo done, by my father, on his 18th birthday, with sewing needle (brand new) and ink. All this is normal for me. So, naturally, I want my belly button pierced. I went and did it with my own money. My husband hated it. I wanted a tattoo and I went and had my brother do it for me. My husband doesn't like it. I can't tell you how many arguments we had over these things before I got them done, but for me, it was my body and I wanted it, so I did it. My husband "likes" my tattoo now, only because it has his name, our kids names, and it suit me. It's also on my calf, so it's kinda hidden.

Anyway, what's your take?

I'd do it anyways. It wouldn't be his place to tell me what I can and can't have put on my body

That was kinda my take on it too, though I had to respect his not liking it too. That's why I got it on my calf, so it was in a place he usually not wanders, lol! kwim? It was hard because we are married and I was doing something I knew he didn't want me to do. And he would have to see this for the rest of his or my life. So it was a difficult situation, but I felt strongly enough about it that I paid for it myself, and hoped he wouldn't absolutely despise my body afterwards.

Yeah I know what you mean, I guess it's a pretty difficult situation if the spouse was really opposed to it. But at the end of the day it is my body... and I feel I should have the right to do as I wish with it

i have 12 tatoos none of them need to be n show if i didnt want them too,i would have them still if my husband was against them, its my body he has his own to have or not have tattoos,i have had a couple of pieceings but they have gone funny so i let them heal up but every now and then i think about having my eyebrow pierced its only the fact it might go bad thats putting me off.i have a man whos a pro artist do mine,he does what ever you want, none from books so there all orginal he comes to your house and he makes and disenfects the needles in front of you,and he is cheaper cos he has no shop rent or space to pay for.

the next time that we meet,i shall bow at your feet, then were prepare to take heaven down there for liam and his nan xxx

If my boyfriend really had a problem with it, I wouldn't get it done.
It may be my body, but it is his as well. He loves it as it is, and any changes are as much his decision as mine.

I love that I am hearing both perspectives, and I can totally appreciate both sides of it. That's why I asked this. I wanted to hear from other people on what their opinion might be. I think what I like most about it is that I'm hearing different reasonings, and yet, all of them are valid.

Well at the moment thats not a problem for me. he likes tattoos, he isn't really into anything else on himself but he has no objection to it on other people or me. And I suppose as I already tattoos and piercings then I am not too likely to ever end up with a person who has major objections to them. If I did however I souldn't stop getting them because of a partner. In my case its a case of you knew what you were getting so dont complain about it now lol. At the end of the day body art and modification is a big passion of mine and I couldn't be in a relationship with somebody who wanted me change that much.

I suppose it probably comes down to what your relationship with body mods is. If you just think there ok and kind of fancy getting soemthing but you are not to bothered, then you can easil hold off getting things and live with someone whop doesn't like them happily enough. If you are really into that sort of art and expresion then I dont think it would really work in the long run.

My partner's a bit like that too. He's not 'against' tattoos or anything, just didn't want me to get any. I've managed to get him to 'let' me get some, which he now is used to and doesn't mind. Although it's my body, he has to look at it for the rest of his life, so if he was really really against an idea I had, I probably wouldn't do it. But I think if it's something you really wanna do, they'd come around and be fine with it.

well im looking at this from the other angle.
my gf just had a lip piercing done. on one hand, facial piercings are one of my pet hates, but at the same time she's still the same person she was before.
the really annoying thing about it is that she didnt talk to me about it at all till afer she had it done.
afterwards, i tried to conceal my frustration, but unsucessfully.
i can live with it but it really has caused friction, from my point of view any way.
my advice to anyone thinking of getting a piercing is that you talk to your spouse beforehand. it can have more of an effect on them than you might think.
i wouldnt consider myself to be shallow at all, as you might think i am from reading this, its just that i have a strong opinion on the ethics behind piercings, and i do wish she'd discussed it with me before.

I would do it anyway! It's not as if my body is going to stay the same forever. At least this way, it's me making a decision about how it does look lol.

I got my first tat without telling my husband. I wanted it to be a surprise. It was to show him how much I love him. He was very touched by what I did. But he is a very sweet thoguhtful man, so no problem here.

I am 45 and pay my own bills. If I want to tattoo a butthole on my forehead I will. Any guy that would be my significant other would already know that is my personality and obviously would be attracted to my free spirited nature and independent lifestyle.
