| jmo Beruset af Julebryg ![]() The United Kingdom of Great Br | #4 I read somewhere that they reckon the speed of light was a lot faster around the time of the big bang. Mainly goes over my head though, it was used as an argument against an issue in Quantum mechanics to do with wave pictures or something. I really don't understand physics, haha. | ||||||

Demented![]() , Australia | #5 I seriously doubt it,it takes 8 mins for light to leave the Sun and hit the surface of the Earth. And just as another point, the weight of that light on the Earth is 6 pounds.

That could be as the after effects of the big bang, things would still be reacting and moving faster I don't get physics either

| spadge Aging Disgracefully Deleted ![]() Santa Land, United Kingdom | #13 I read somewhere that someone had managed to slow light down to something like 240mph. How it was done I have no idea, wether its even true or not is anyones guess too, but I'm pretty sure it can be slowed. Just not sure of how much by tho. | ||||||

I did notice that you mentioned NASA, but that doesn't change the fact that your "6 pounds" comment is completely meaningless and totally wrong. P.S. The rude, snarky comments don't make you look better.

It's a basic property of light that its speed varies depending on the medium it's traveling through. Light moves more slowly through glass than through air, for instance. However, jmo is referring to the speed of light in a vacuum slowing down over time. In other words, he's wondering if the fundamental properties of nature itself aren't necessarily constant - the charge on an electron, the mass of a quark, the speed of light, etc. It's certainly a possibility, and one that has been proposed by a number of physicists.
