How do I know if my soundcard is fried? Does it just stop working?

Mine just stopped working after a format one day. I'd formatted it a couple of times before and never had this problem. And I did everything the same.

Ah, this is going to be hard now, and you don't know the manufacturer and model number of the soundcard?

If you know the make and model of your computer, you should be able to go to the manufacturers website, search for your computer there, and they should have all the software you need there.

Ah I see now. I think I tend to think outside the box too much and don't see what's blindingly obvious at times.

Thanks for that.

Will let you know how I go.

Once again, cheers guys.

Hey I've had this problem before. It may not be reinstalling the soundcard. I even changed the sound card on my driver.

With XP you click the start button and go to "Run." Type in services.msc and click ok. It will pull up something that shows everything on your computer that can be auto ran at start. If you scroll down to "Windows Audio" and it doesn't say Started next to it then it's not running. Double click on it and if it says Disabled then change it to Automatic.
Now this still may not work, which is when you go to Plug and Play. A good indication that your Plug and Play isn't working is if your usb drives don't work either. Switch Plug and Play to automatic and then go to your sound under control panel and make sure everything isn't muted. You should be good to go... If you do all this and it's still not working try restarting your computer afterwards.

Ok, so I've tried all of that and still nothing. I got the driver from the HP website, but it wasn't able to install for some stupid reason.

Any ideas?
