My opinions are usually sound and I don't give them out off the top of my head. I hate it when people are dittering around about doing something and ask "What would you do?" "What do you think?" "What do you like?" Only to have them turn around and do their own thing anyways! What the heck did they ask my opinion for? They didn't go by it, and they didn't even acknowledge it, and they didn't give any credence to the fact that sometimes I may just know what I am talking about?" If my opinion means so little, then don't bother asking for it.

Asking for opinions doesn't mean you will absolutely do what the other person suggests. It means you're weighing out options. It doesn't mean that your opinion is worthless. But perhaps they came to a decision on their own anyway.

Posting anything with a question mark at the end of it, or even an implied question mark counts for a good percentage of thread starters.

Give your opinion .. stay to debate if you feel the urge .. otherwise just move on. The OP will either take the advice or dismiss it.

That's what 'they' say too!
Sometimes I get 'drawn' into their business, since they are telling it all to me anyways, and I research things et al, give them information which I took the time to check into first to make sure it was accurate - then afterwards I wonder why the heck I bothered.

What's so wrong with someone making their own decisions? Just because they choose differently than you would doesn't necessarily make them wrong

Oh good, it's not just me.
By the way - the incident that prompted this was not on TFS
or even online - but it does happen for sure in both places.

People look for a spectrum of viewpoints to compare to theirs but they have the perogative, after reviewing the spectrum, to go by their own hearts.

The only honest advice that I ever got from my only friend when I was younger was to do myself in.

Sometimes it's wiser to go on your own accord even after rallying up the peanut gallery.

I've brought this up before. Sometimes people just want somebody to agree with them. I've noticed in many threads, good, sound advice (not talking about mine) has been offered several time and gotten ignored. If you watch, some find a poster who agrees with them and cling on to that. Just an observation; it's frustrating. One time this woman asked me for good hotels in a town I know like the back of my hand. Being thorough and using experience I spent considerable time getting info for her. She listened to nothing, pestered other people and when she returned was angry. She stayed in a hotel that I had warned her against. People have very selective hearing.

That's true. Good point. When it is an 'honestly' asked, it's okay.
It's just at times it seems it's the same people, over and over again, worrying things to deaf, waiting for everyone else to solve their problems for them. Kind of in a whining/complaing way.
Sometimes you wonder if they're even capable of making decisions on their own. Maybe it's just age, making you less tolerant of things
you just accepted 'before'.

Hey Jazz - maybe I read your previous thread, and it reached me subliminally! lol. All I know, is it happened to me the other day
and it was easy to see what the person was up to.
