Looks like an above-average composite score!

Check this out.

It's not bad. It really depends on what schools you're thinking of applying to, and how heavily they look at the SAT grades. Many colleges only really consider the Math and Reading sections. So you may want to consider that.

If you have any idea what colleges you're interested in, you may want to go to the Collegeboard site and compare your SAT scores to the average student's at a particular university.

I'm not sure if I can give you a direct link, but go here and type the name of the school you're interested in into the "College QuickFinder" box. Then click on the "SAT?, AP?, CLEP?" tab. It'll tell you the middle 50% there.

You can also click the link that says "How do I stack up?" and compare your SAT scores, among other things.

Is this the first time you took it?

Thanks, I followed your instructions. Seems I'm going to work my a** off this year to get my GPA high enough.

Yes, this was my first time taking it. I was hoping it would be my last.

Most people take it 2-3 times. Your score tends to be a little higher the second/third time you take it, so I would recommend doing it again Sorry! I know it's a pain in the ass, long test to take

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but its a pretty mediocre score.
However, it WAS your first time taking it so don't be discouraged. The first time I
took the SATS I got around a 1780 but the 2nd time I passed the 2000 mark.. so
my score rose a couple of hundred points. I'd definitely recommend taking it a
2nd time and possibly 3rd. Take an SAT prep class in between if you can, I
actually found it to be helpful.

Don't let your personal evaluation enter into it. It's up to her to examine the links that have been provided, see what the various schools are looking for, and make up her own mind, as to where she stands. Based on the nation-wide averages, her score is above the median value... Stay positive when trying to help a person out, and you'll have better results.

I wasn't trying to be negative. I am certain if she takes the SAT again her
score will improve, especially if she takes a SAT prep class in between.

he asked if her score was considered good, and I wouldn't say it is. I am just
trying to be honest and offer my opinion... take it or leave it. Her scores do
fall above national averages, but I personally wouldn't find that to be very
comforting. Depending on the schools she wishes to apply for, it could be
good enough or even over the top. It is not a terrible score by any means.
However, her score hovers or are below the median SAT scores for the
entering class of most well known universities (rank 80 and below on USNews
ranking system).

From the school I'm looking at, it's a decent score. My GPA is the problem. Thanks for the imput, though. I'll probably take it again.

Well good luck! I think thats a great idea. I think its great that you already have
some schools in mind. I honestly had no clue where I was going until the last
minute during my senior year. However, don't get too stuck on just one school!
Most people ended up applying to 3+ colleges, some as many as 10 or so.
