This was very, very strange.
One night I took a sleeping pill, I can't remember the name of it but anyway, it didn't make me sleep but made me stay away the whole night hallucinating.
I saw giraffe heads growing from my stereo speakers, the sky changing colours and heard my bedroom curtains talking to me. I often have weird reactions to pills but this was just too odd.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
I've often have trouble sleeping and was asked by my GP if I wanted to try a sleeping aid but don't want to incase this happens again.

This happens to me when I take Nyquil. It's something in the sleep aid. Everyone reacts a little different to medications. I would advise against taking a full dose of those sleep aids again.

Is your GP's office in a shady alley in the crack district?

Nope.

Long story - I wasn't given the pills by my GP. I was given 2 individual ones (in packaging, so i know they were actually sleeping pills) after I had to meet with someone at the police station.
Anyway, i can't be bothered going into that but i'm 100% sure it wasn't crack.

Ambien most probably. It causes a lot of people to hallucinate.

Yikes!!! I think I would rather be sleepless than see two headed giraffes. It sounds like you should probably stay away from sleeping pills. Have you tried a cup of hot chocolate before going to bed? My mother swears that is as good as a sleeping pill for her. I occasionally take an OTC sleeping pill during the week so I can get some rest but not every night.

Hope you can find something to give you a good night's sleep.

Note to self: Next time illegal drugs are not forthcoming, take sleeping pills.

Might work, other wise I'll be sleeping so I wont give a s*** and a half.

I had that happen to me once but I took a wee bit more than the recommended dosage of the sleeping pills. I was talking to the walls and the tv and the hallway...and I kept seeing spiders all over the walls...it freaked me out but i guess better than having an acid trip recall, or so I have heard anyways.

OMG, this happened to me and my sister in law! it was crazy. they were these AAFES brand sleeping pills called SOMNITABS (super weak sleeping pill) ya gotta take like 16 of them for it to start getting weird. i thought the floor was water and hung onto the fridge handle for safety, haha, and my S.I.L. thought there were little blue spiders with silver legs crawling all over her. freaked out so much that she started rubbing nail polish remover and vinegar on them to try and kill them, lol. and we'd lose or train of thought in a heartbeat. we'll be talking about something and in the middle of my statement, i will forget what the hell i was talking about or just ramble off with something that didn't have anything to with what i was talking about. haha, it was so fun... there's lots more stories, haha! have some crazy ambien stories, too, haha

happened with my Mom, with ambien. Very powerful sleeping tool. She had just had surgery, and stayed at the hospital late, then decided she seemed stable, so were going to catch some sleep at my sisters. My BIL decided he'd go back to be with her, and I said I would too to spend the night. Good thing - she definitely was hallucinating about something. Not violent, no spiders,
but acted totally out of her mind. Talked like in another language that you've never heard before, and kept doing the hand gestures that crazy people do. Even the hospital staff got very concerned, didn't know what the heck it was, and rushed her all around different places for various tests and x-rays feeling maybe she had another stroke or heart attack. Everyone shrugged it off. Until the next night I think, or next incident -- they gave it to her again, and two of my siblings were there with her during the night. After much discussion, it was determined it was the sleeping pill. My MIL had more mild,
catatonic type symptoms to a sleep aid given to her.
The elderly are definitely more affected by the side effects of sleep aids, but anyone can be.
