| Lili .................... ![]() Sunshine Land, | #1 I think I'm getting a sinus infection! I've never had one before, so I don't really know what I'm in for yet, but I've heard they're horrible. Can you give me any suggestions on heading this thing off before it gets too established? Help me please, I don't wanna suffer! | ||||||

| xTeddyx Teddy Hugs ![]() On my mind, Georgia | #2 Do you have antibiotics? Honest it you have an infection you are going to need them. You are right they can be awful! I take the antibiotics and Mucinex D 2 times a day to help. If no antibiotics at least go and get the mucinex!! | ||||||

| jonnythan Bringer of rad mirth ![]() Here and there, | #3 Stock up on Sudafed. Get the real stuff - the stuff from behind the pharmacy counter. None of this phenylephrine crap. | ||||||

| Lili .................... ![]() Sunshine Land, | #4 Ugh, I'm feeling pressure in my forehead, nose, and cheekbones. | ||||||
|
| jonnythan Bringer of rad mirth ![]() Here and there, | #5 Mucinex D has pseudoephedrine in it. I tend to stay away from multi-drugs. I like to take each individually, that way I don't have to take drugs I don't need at that moment. At home, I almost always have on hand: Sudafed Benadryl Robitussin (plain stuff, same as Mucinex) Tylenol Advil All generics. I take whatever I need. For congestion, Robitussin + Sudafed is the best you can do OTC. Add painkillers or antihistamines as necessary. The Benadryl can really help you get to sleep - it's the exact same stuff sold as Tylenol PM and Simply Sleep. | ||||||

| xTeddyx Teddy Hugs ![]() On my mind, Georgia | #6 I too will take the Robitussin I use the honey one if it turns to a cough. And continue with the Mucinex. And I have taken Sudafed before but not at the same time as Mucinex. It works just as well! | ||||||

| jonnythan Bringer of rad mirth ![]() Here and there, | #7 Robitussin and Mucinex are the same thing, so obviously don't take both | ||||||

| lilbear Aequitas / Veritas! Deleted ![]() , Canada | #8 Whatever you take for your sinuses be sure to check your hear rate. Reason is that most of these types of meds have an ingredient "Can't remember the name now" that makes your heart rate faster and can make you jittery and when you're sleeping feel kind of a nervousness. It does sound like and infection or allergies as I have them all the time. Consult with Doc before you take anything to make sure it doesn't affect you negatively. But if the mucus that you're expelling is yellowish or green than the odds are that it is an infection and only antibiotics can get rid of those. But the others if you can take them will make it much more comfortable for you. Pseudoephedrine : This is the ingredient that causes the fast heart rates in some people. | |||||||

That's the pseudoephedrine. It's the decongestant in Sudafed, Mucinex D, Tylenol Sinus, Claritin D, etc etc. Since it can be used to make meth, it's regulated now and you have to produce your ID to buy it. As a result, phenylephrine is being sold OTC. The problem is that phenylephrine doesn't work well, if at all, for the vast majority of people. Pseudoephedrine is off-limits for people with hypertension because it doesn temporarily increase blood pressure and heart rate slightly. It's a non-issue for otherwise healthy people.

That's true because I have been diagnosed with Super Ventricular Tachycardia and can't take any of them.

| El_Tino booyaka! ![]() Las Cruces, New Mexico | #13 In the past, I've used warm salt water. Gargle with the salt water. You also have to suck the salt water into your nose to clean it out, which really sucks doing. I would do it 2 times a day. That has worked for me. But you might need to get an antibiotic. | ||||||
|
| jonnythan Bringer of rad mirth ![]() Here and there, | #14 How do you suck salt water through your nose without inhaling some? | ||||||
|
| Lili .................... ![]() Sunshine Land, | #15 does it go up into your sinuses? I was thinking of something similar with xylitol instead of salt. | ||||||
