Power is the ability to destroy something but choosing not to. It's one of the many reasons why the legal system is flawed. Weather intentional or not the power of the justice system is misused or inefficiently applied. It fails to realize fully it's impact.

At the end of the day the children still go punished and you all have your justice satisfied. At least they aren't your motherless kids right?

Shit, man.

Listen up women! Break all the laws you want! It's OK, we won't send you to jail.

After all, we can't punish your children! They're innocent.

I think he doesn't understand what he said.

Because, if he did, he means that women with children who commit serious crimes shouldn't get sentenced to jail because it indirectly punishes her children.

I know exactly what I said. I never said she shouldn't get punished for it. I said there are other ways that she can be punished. I don't see with tunnel vision as well as other here I guess.

What other punishment is there for drug trafficking and evading justice for 3 decades?

So what sort of sentence is appropriate for someone who was sentenced to 10-20 years for drug dealing and then ran from their sentence and committed fraud while hiding under an assumed identity?

That doesn't inconvenience the children, of course.

From my experience working with the state systems for underage children the child's wellbeing needs to be put before anything else. I have the luxury of not having to give her a sentence. But if it were me and I had the power to giver her a sentence. It would go something like:

She would be on probation until the reminder of her sentence is complete. She would live at a State facility and have a "job"(no pay-work is for her meals and whatnot) appointed to her by the head of the facility. She would be allowed to go visit her children during days which she has no duties, after 12:00, on weekends and would be expect to return to the facility no later that 5:00. There would be no exceptions, ever.

But that's just me...Vekta the Merciful.

She won't if she wants to be apart of her kid's lives. She will already have an understanding that if she violates the terms I set for her then I would not be able to help her any longer and she would go back into the normal prison population when she is caught.(not if) I have lots of ideas about that part.

the way i have to see it is that she has to go to jail,
i'd rather see her not get too harsh a sentance if she's been clean and respectable for so many years.

but you can't let criminals out just because they have kids, that could apply to any family, families invariably suffer when people are put in jail, it can't be helped.

She hasn't been clean and responsible for so many years. Every second she was on the run, she was breaking a law.

A surveillance team, a surveillance chopper on station over her location, an agreement to let us plant a GPS tracking chip in her, fear tactics involving sudden death from un urban sniper team if she should go outside an pre- established area. All provided by grump tax payer money * coughadrinachromecough*
