How the heck do you get 10 to 20 years sentence for a drug charge? My question is, what did she do? Because if she did something that justly warrants such a lenghty sentence than she didn't pay her dept to society.
But if for 34 years she hasn't been dealing with drugs at all and her children are in a stable home, for the sake of the kids we shouldn't disrupt that.
But then there's the statement that says if you escape from prison for 34 years or so than you're off the hook.

Yes, she should go to jail. She eluded the authorities for years after running out on a prison sentence. She did the crime, but hasn't done the time.

She probably got that much time because she was dealing heroin. They don't screw around with that s**t.

Should she? Anyone with a sympathetic moral compa** would say no. She broke out of prison, she knew what she was doing and like anything else in the adult world she is accountable for her actions. The justice system can be and is a cold, mindless automaton programed only to uphold whatever the establish standard of justice is. Then there are those who would like to make an example of her so other inmates don't try and follow her example. There are alternatives to sending her to prison but there are not very many compassionate souls left that hold power at any level.

She broke the law, and she ran.

In what universe should she be exempt from any punishment whatsoever just because she managed to evade authorities?

Should she be rewarded for successfully running away from police for long enough??

I gotta go with Jon on this one, she knew what she was doing was illegal both times. As far as her getting leniency for pleading guilty she should have known better. She was dealing drugs, why should she get off light?

I never said exempt. I said there are other ways besides sending her to jail. Whenever there are children involved it factors into the situation. There will never be a perfect solution, only compromise.

The law should not have to compromise with drug trafficers, yeah she had kept her nose clean for 32 years but thats because she was a wanted women, whose to say what she may have done had she not got caught the first time.

Nor should the law indirectly punish children for crimes they're innocent of.

yeah agreed and I can see how they are getting punished by the fact that their mother is being taken from them, that is still more her fault then the laws.

She shouldn't be rewarded with a lighter sentence just because she broke a bunch of other laws while evading the police.

Seriously. She was wanted for dealing heroin. So she ran, assumed an identity, and hide from authorities for years.

Shit, bitch! Congratulations! YOU WIN! You evaded the justice system for so long that we're going to reward you with a reduced sentence! You figured it out!

So for all you convicted cons out there.... RUN! Commit fraud and identity theft! If you do enough of it, we'll just pardon you!

Are you kidding?

A hundred prostitutes in Washington D.C. were
asked if they would ever sleep with President
Clinton. 60% said, 'Never again!'

I think he doesn't understand what he said.

Because, if he did, he means that women with children who commit serious crimes shouldn't get sentenced to jail because it indirectly punishes her children.
