Yesterday when I was working on my 1995 Nissan Maxima I ran into a "big" problem. After I had replaced the back roaters and began to put the calipers back on I noticed the calipers were fully extended = BAD. I had reallly hoped that they were not seized....but the tool set I had wouldnt budge the piston, SO I spent 175$ on 2 brand new calipers, 100$ on all 4 roaters, and 60$ on all the brake pads. I think the calipers on the passenger side had seized before because there was literally NO pad left on the back pasanger, but all the other pads had alteast 1/4'' inch left on them. What had caused the pad to be metal on roater, while all the other brakes were fine? Because the caliper seized?

That's a lot of money on new calipers. You didn't need new calipers at all, but since you have them you might as well use em I guess.

BTW, it's "Rotor."

Did you notice the car pulling to either side while braking? Which caliper(s) are/were seized? Is your e-brake releasing properly?

No, I needed the calipers. I had a mechanic (neighboor) come over and look at them. He said there was nothing I could do, Plus the calipers were stock and I might as well got them replaced you know?

I thought it was Rotor, I had been told it was Roater...Ugh dumb people. I stand corrected again, when I was right the first time.

The car does not lean to either side, it drives perfectley straight but I do think that something is wrong with the E-Brake because there is not a whole lot of strain on it when I pull it up...but Im not sure. Both calipers were seized in the back.

The car has been in full repair. Everything has been replaced, I just need to bleed the brakes the rest of the way. I was rushed and was only able to do so much on the back, but I have enough pressure to be good until I bleed them when I get back tonight. I also have to rotate the tires, and connect my E-brake back because I left the bolt at autozone last night

Yeah, 10 years old, I would have done the same thing vs rebuilding. But then again calipers on my Pontiac are only $18 each at the local parts store.

So both rear calipers were seized? That's pretty odd. My guess is that one seized, leaving some friction material on its pads, then the other one seized some time later, while it used up the rest of its friction material (more quickly because it was the only one in the back doing any braking).

As for the e-brake, it's probably a simple adjustment. I don't know offhand how to do it on your vehicle, but you should definitely take care of it.

On the 1994 Maxima (which may or may not be different) I can verify that it's adjusted by rotating an adjustment bolt on the parking brake lever itself. You have to remove the skirt to see it.

Are you really a 21 year old female doing all this work by yourself??
