Good or Bad idea?

I think its a good idea you dont have as much bullying and see who the 'rich' kids are and the 'poor' kids you dont take ages looking for a cute little outfit thats going to impress people and also you are all treated the same?

I think the same way but at the same time i like not having a uniform because i can really express who i am with what i wear. Clothes really express what a person is all about. Not necessarily what they are ALL about but you know what i mean.

I'm kinda on the fence with this one.

Expression is good but it gets distracting. I think kids should find other ways....speach, acting, debate, drama, band, singing, sports. There are a LOT of other ways to tell people what youre all about besides what you wear.

And.......when you grow up its not gonna matter what you wear, it will depend on your job and what you can afford.

HAAHAH, thanks, I think.

I actually work in education so Ive seen kids get out of control trying to "be unique" a lot of times its more annoying and distracting to people. AND you open yourself up to teasing.

i really think School uniforms would be a great idea!! that way every kid would be treated equal... Now a days a lot of kids don't have money for name brand clothing and kids are so mean that you really get made fun of it you don't have the right kinda of clothes.. I know its really bad but true..

I don't like being treated like i'm poor because I don't have the rite clothes, and I don't like seeing anyone else treated like that either. However, as long as you wear decent clothes it's a way to expres yourself! I love being different and never wearing brand names... until this summer I didn't have a single brand name except no boundaries.... I always loved to change stuff around , and with uniforms I couldn't do that!
And besides, with a lot of uniforms you have to tuck shirts in and make sure they fit properly... well some girls get teased because then it shows off any extra weight around their tummy! I hate that too....

I am fully against school uniforms.

1) "Rich kids wouldn't be able to pick on the less well-off kids." - Not true. Kids are going to be b****es no matter what. They're going to know what kids are well-off and which kids aren't, even without clothes. There are plenty of expensive gadgets that kids have nowadays to let them all know who is rich and who isn't. Besides, if kids really want to pick on other kids, they're going to, even if there isn't a reason. They will find a reason.

2) All the kids will look the same. Who's to say they won't act the same as well? Remember that Simpsons episode where the kids wore uniforms? They all become boring little look-a-likes who didn't know the meaning of fun. Though the prospect of that in real life is pretty crazy, the point is still that wearing the same thing as everyone else can wear down a person's individuality. Why do you think all the armies in the world have had their soldiers wear the exact same thing, for style? They did it so that the soldiers wouldn't think that they were any better than the other soldiers, to make them all feel equal - all worthy of being easily killed.

3) What if I'm a poor kid who cannot afford the outfit? What if I am really so bad off that I can only buy clothes from the Goodwill, and the store doesn't have the things needed for the uniform? What if I can only afford one thing of each for the uniform and cannot afford to get the stuff washed every night?

4) What if a kid completely dispises the uniform he/she has to wear for four years? He/she is stuck with the uniform, no matter what. The student may try to leave the school at the first available chance, even if dropping out is the only way, just to escape the torture of wearing plaid day in, day out, without any change, for no reason other than that it will make him/her "a good child." Simple point - what if the kid hates it? He/she may take extreme measures to do away with the uniform; thus, the uniform would be causing more trouble than it would be saving.

I'm going to pull something I said from another thread about something else and copy and paste it here since I'm too lazy to retype it

This is one reason why I wouldn't mind school uniforms. I'm not saying the whole thing, like guys have to wear ties and dress pants, etc, and girls skirts and blouses, but maybe just like everyone in the school pays for 5 t-shirts that are all the same, except maybe like different colors.

It'd certainly save money, it would be a way of identification, and cause a lot of people who don't dress "the cool way" to fit in a lot more easily.

As for "expressing" themselves...sometimes the byproducts of this expression are more negative than beneficial. Besides, you could still dress whatever which way you want on weekends/vacations. I mean, most work places have strict dress codes and/or uniforms, and employees learn to deal with it.

I dont care about school uniforms a dress code is a dress might aswell recpest that.

I understand that kids can afford the latest s*** and feel pressureised becuase some kid who can afford that crap would torment them.

You can never win with kids even if your rich or poor they would still pick on you for whatever reasn to have.

And they mostly pic on other kids for the most stupid things

i think that although school uniforms are good at alleviating any problems with the types of clothes we should wear to school and bullies and stuff but i also think that they should be more practical. At my school we have to wear thick black jumpers, nylon polo shirts and black trousers, which means that it's almost unbearable in the summer and in the winter they don't keep you warm enough, but if we wear anything different then we get punished. I think it should be optional

Think what should be optional? Whether or not you want to wear a school uniform?

If that's what you meant...I think that's just the same as saying "wear whatever you want." Those that wear the uniform will probably be made fun of just as much as those who don't wear the most fashionable clothes to begin with.

I think they're a good thing..just as long as its not the whole "tie" uniform, like what the private school around me wear.

I think uniforms should be relaxed adn comfortable..our school all we had was to wear a polo shirt with the school emblem and either had the choice between the skirt or shorts or girls and shorts for the boys. It was simple, and comfortable and saved the hassle of having to look for something to wear everyday.
