I just finished The Dark Tower, and at points its really heavy going for what is essentially his version of the What is real take.... but it ends and it is perfect and you miss it. I had tired of his writing but Dark Tower's lead me back in.... if you know about it it begins to weave his books all in and leaves you searching for the ones you've missed few of his seperate works have been so total and so ready to fall in...

Everything is true,
God is an astronaut,
Oz is over the rainbow,
and Midian is where the Monsters live...

Gerald's Game was not boring. In fact, I was really impressed with King's ability to get into the mid of his main character. As to Koontz...typically his books folow the same pattern over and over again. The majority of his books are, in my opinion, dull as dishwater. I've tried reading many of his books and have to force myself to finish them.

Then we agree to disagree on our "opinions".

I'm not really a huge Stephen King fan, but I heard that the Dark Tower series has a fantasy element to it that makes it different than his other novels. I'm a huge fantasy/sci-fi fan, so I've been tempted as of late to pick the first first volume up. So can anyone tell me if what I heard is true? Would I like them?

Yes, if you like fantasy, you'll like The Dark Tower. There's also a comic book series of the Dark Tower as well.

My favourites in no particular order would be, Everythings Eventual, Firestarter and defo the dark tower series, particularly the 4th which is mostly about the gunslingers past. I loved the character Blaine the insane monorail, it's such a wacky and strangely scary idea based in a world that is wacky and strangely scary.

I will add though that i'm not sure about the end of the dark tower series, i like it but i don't in equal measure

That was the main reason why i didn't read them, i beat the ending out of my mate and she said that it just felt as though SK didn't really know how to end it and that was what we ended up with!! She was really disappointed, like it was a real anti climax and i can't subject myself to all that reading to be let down at the end unfortunately!! Never mind, i love all his others!!

I've never read any of his books, but all the movie adaptions of his books suck so bad.
1408 was terrible, and so was dreamcatcher and some other s**t thing I saw. Horrible.

if u just only the general storyline of the movies what would you think of the ideas he comes up with? also... his older movies tend to be better... as far as movies of his i recommend it, shawshank redemption and stand by me the most... ive only ever read it by him tho... and i was too young to really remember what i thought of it...
