I've never tried it, but if you're looking for alcohol in coffee why not just do a little Baleys Irish Cream in a cup of coffee??

I would but I can't afford Baileys, very yummy though. I prefer Jamesons whiskey in coffee really, but as it's been a meh day I think rum will do

Yes it's lovely give it a try. Ice coffee with Rum is nicer.

Measure coffee into a bowl. Pour 4 cups boiling water over coffee. Stir in rum and sugar. Pour into glasses filled with ice. Top with cream and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Another good trick with rum is to use it to prepare various fruits and berries; in a crock, place sugar and fruits, then, fill with rum, cover, and wait....

The waiting period depends on when the fruit was harvested, but we would prepare something like this in late summer or early fall, and then, in December or later, use the rum and fruit mix as a topping, to be ladled over sponge-cake, or ice-cream, and it literally knocks your socks off!

Mmm they all sound really nice, going to have to try them over Christmas

me and rum have an understanding. I understand that whenever I drink it I lose all self control. Doubt the caffeine will do anything to abate the effects.

Yeah know what you mean, me and vodka have a similar understanding.

Has anyone ever tried rum in coffee before?

If so is it any good?

I'm tempted to finish my rum tonight but don't want to waste good alcohol/coffee if it isn't any good.

Ingredients:

2 cups hot coffee
1/2 cup half-and-half, heated
2 1/2 Tbs. sugar
1/8 tsp. ground cardamom
1/8 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
3/4 cup amber rum
Grated chocolate for garnish

Directions:

1. Select 4 mugs. In a pitcher, stir together the coffee, half-and-half, sugar, cardamom and nutmeg.
2. Pour 3 Tbs. of the rum into each mug and top with the warm coffee mixture.
3. Stir gently, sprinkle the top with the chocolate and serve immediately.
