I never knew before about the fried chicken and watermelon until I asked someone. This was after Obama was elected. It was a joke about him I did not know was racist until I asked what it meant.
When food comes from our country, like pasta in Italy or rice and Chinese we know they eat it because it is big in their country. If I lived in Mexico from birth and grew up eating home cooked meals then it would be what we call Mexican food.
I don't always view it as racist. They are more prone to eat it if that is what is popular in their country.
About black people, that one is not a thing about where they are from. I see it as racist. I have been in black parts of a city. Sometimes I see a lot of chicken places. I have been to white parts of a city and sometimes there are many chicken places.
I learnt about the Kool Aid thing too but I drank it as a kid.
It's all silly. | | |

Im sure you all have heard of the stereotype foods such as black people and fried chicken, white people and cheese (which i do like by the way), Asians and rice, Spanish people and tacos.
However, i would like to know if there is any truth to them?
Also, if there is a reason these are the foods that are part of the stereotype.
Also if there are any other racially stereotypical foods.
(not trying to be racist by the way)
They weren't always "stereotypical" foods. There is a historical connection between certain foods and people of certain classes or races. African slaves in the South weren't able to keep expensive animals such as cattle, but they were allowed to keep chickens, which they deep fried. Fried chicken kept well for several days in the hot sun, so it became a popular staple with slaves working on plantations.
Rice is typically associated with Asia because of the ease with which it grows in the region and it's versatility as a staple food for all classes of the Asian society. Dried rice can basically keep forever, which made it a popular staple during drought conditions.
Tacos were a lunch staple in Mexico long before the arrival of Europeans. They were wrapped or folded in tortillas because it made them easy for workers to carry in their packs. The diet of ancient Mayans and Aztecs was based on corn, beans, tortillas and chilies.

I think there maybe a little truth to some stereotypes....but I can't say for sure where some of them come from....
